Arm Pump

just had my first moto of the season this last weekend. i havent really had much seat time lately and during my motos i got terrible arm pump. just wondering what some of you guys do to help prevent it? i know stay hydrated which i do. i stretch before and after motos. i know more riding will help. and i usually take a few ibuprophen to help thin my blood. any suggestions?

Potassium pills. Take a gallon of water put it on a string on a doll rod and 'roll' it with your hands (the doll rod) so the gallon of water goes up and then down. That'll help your forearms

o ok. i did hear about the rod and i heard a 5 pound weight and roll it up. forgot to metion id have a banana bout a half hour to 45 minutes before me motos. i will try the rod and weight and see if it helps.

o and the green nail polish...wasnt that suppose to help bar vibration??? or was it arm pump???....if you the reader has no clue about this...i beleive its from a seen in the movie "motocrossed"!

agree with all but the biggest thing is to relax and loosen your grip grip with your knees more i had a very bad prob with this back when i raced once i got over the tight grip i
was good to go and lots of water/pedialite ib profin and get one of those grip strengthening things and while your just sitting around watching tv or whatever use it

bananas, but you got that covered as far as cramps/potassium.

could just be b/c youve been off the bike for so long. motocrossed was a classic! :burnout:

these are the tips i give myself when riding.. all will help with arm pump and fatigue in general:

1) stand up.. the more the better
2) grip with your knees..
3) BREATHE
4) Look Ahead, dont look at your front wheel
5) when in the air, ease up on your hands, use those few seconds to relax
6) try not to white knuckle grip of death it up the face of the jumps.. relax..

youre probably just riding real tense. ive seen most of the things i said or was gonna say already covered here.. good info.. :Banane09:

When I raced I did the weights hanging from a rope trick. I made my wood dowel the width of my bars.
It works.

i could have been riding tense. im not sure. thought i was keeping my elbows up too for better riding position. i'll do a few things and see how my next few motos go the next few weeks!

Just ride
loosen grip on bars some.

wait, that only helps on ski's

that actually helps a lot on bikes too.

I wouldnt take any kind of pills that would thin your blood its not good for you. when you hydrate, start hydrate a couple days before the race thats only way your gonna hydrate yourself and get it in your system. Don't drink coffee, energy drinks etc. they have caffine and will make you really tense. really the only thing that makes a difference is riden. start riden a lot and you will build your stamina, itll never go away but you can make it bearable during a race. Like saki said breathe, practice breathing when your riden. you dont realize it cause your adrenaline is flowing, but you stop breathing(hold your breath) a lot when your racing. practice throttle control too. a lot of people grab a handful and dump the clutch out of the turn, but you actually come out faster and more controlable if you dont hit it all at once out of the turn.

Use thiner grips as well
I find if my grips are to thick i get arm pump big time

excellent point. i stopped using the renthal half-waffle grips a few months ago and that helped my hands from getting sore. i dont get arm pump, but i do get sore hands when i do a long moto.. the grips are key. :fing02:

i went to a gary bailey mx school a few years back and he said sit down as much as you can, obviously when its rough you cant.....watch the pros in morning practice when its still kinda smooth they rarely leave the seat.

dam.. that's what i was tought from the A rider dude we hang out with in our crew.. he's always yelling at me to stand up more and not sit down until the apex of a corner.... ive seen you ride.. i aint doubting you one bit!!! :woot:

:dunno:

I'v also noticed using thinner grips helps a lot with the arm pump. But I also think just riding more (a lot more) helps the most with arm pump, if not eliminate it. I just thought of a cool idea, how about ultra thin grips with a super soft tacky compound. Sell them in packs of 3 or something at a very reasonable price. That way u get less arm pump with the thin grips and you can just replace them often (very often). :headbang:
