B pipe couplers

I was in search of a high temp coupler for the B pipe just to see what they cost. The interesting thing was all the silicone couplers are technically rated to 500°F but I've burned a hole in one because I forgot to hook a cooling line back up to the pipe for a few minutes. Granted the coupler I burned up didn't look exactly like the bright blue couplers sold today.

I guess my question is, are the older couplers rated to lower temperatures, did my exhaust temp burn it, or are the couplers not able to withstand the advertised temperature?

Good links for sure, but to answer the orignal question, your exhasut temps burned it. From the Two-Stroke Tuner's Handbook By Gordon Jennings:

Exhaust gases emerge from the cylinder at about 1200° F and have very nearly (about 800o F) the same temperature back in the outlet pipe. But expansion within the chamber itself cools them (prior to recompression and reheating back in the baffle cone) to perhaps 500° F., or less, in the midsection, and a wave does not move as rapidly through those cooler gases.

ps - there are links to this book and others floating around if you do a search.

I bought a 2' section of the black tube and have sliced off two couplers so far have enough left for quite a few more. Quality stuff and very durable.

anyone know what size the tail end of the b-pipe to water box size clamps would be, figured I would make them match. Also anyone know where I can get the sweet 3/8" crimp hose clamps, and the silicone 3/8 hose you get with a new b pipe?

The small end of the pipe is 2" so the clamps should be in the 2.5" range. I don't know anything about crimp clamps though, I just used regular hose clamps.
