i still dont see the problem with a agm battery. the few pounds you save, isnt gonna make you a better rider. it only drains your wallet. i would rather buy a case of oil...

When your riding a carbon, 1000cc flatwater ski to drop 8-10 lbs is a big deal!

But more important is these batteries keep high voltage during starts which also will help with ATP flame/epic's

We have been using these a123's for years in the RC heli's and big gas planes

I was actually about to say something along these lines too. My thought was that people will spend an extra $1000-$3000 for the carbon version of a hull over the fiberglass version to save 20 lbs... Others will spend $1000 to save 5-10 lbs on a hood while riding a stock hull that weighs 20-30lbs more than a basic aftermarket hull. $200-$300 on a waterbox that weighs slightly less than stock and has a slightly different tone. Yet saving 10lbs on a battery for under $200 is strange.

I've been looking at these batteries for years but it's only recently that companies are saying that you can charge these with a normal charger...and are providing warranties.

My Shorai; 2 year manufacturer warranty, Charges with the adaptor looking Junior battery Tender. $20 charger. it takes about 15 minutes before I go riding so it no big deal to plan to plug it in. They told me not to leave it on float mode charge but to charge it before you use it much like a cordless drill.

the guys putting these batts in their ski are on a waaaay different level than most....

its almos a competition just to bring the lighest strongest ski to the beach

by the time you spend 30k to have truly lighweight ski, 80 bucks to save 6-8 lbs is the cheapest part on the ski! .....I say 80 as a decent batt costs 80 regardless........

if you are a bargain jetskiier, this mod simply isnt for you....

Is there any reports on these batteries yet or did I overlook something? I am very curious as to how they perform, That is alot of weight shaved, Or does someone have any other recomendations for me on a battery around the same weight and price range? I am just getting into flatwater freestyle and a lighter battery is the next thing on my list.

two people i know have the shoria 1.5lbs battery. i am getting the 2lb version when they get back in stock this may. the smart charger is now available and plugs into a special 5 wire port. Scott2t has been running this battery for 7 weeks now with great results on a TL.. 2 year warranty, what else do you guys want to know.

The Shorai batteries look really nice and they sell a custom charger that plugs into the front of the battery. The battery I want says it it should be in stock around May 4th-9th. If that's true, I may have to pull the trigger this time.

Looks like a great battery for fresh water.... I don't think the plug/charger port would last long in a surf ski. Just my .02 cent

But what a cool battery

Very good point... I didn't even think about salt water usage. One alarming thing I noted about these batteries. They consider the battery to be over-discharged once the resting voltage reaches 12.8v. I just want to make sure it can drop below that while under load without damage. I asked their tech support about this for clarification and awaiting a response. Maybe the other batteries are like that too and it just isn't spelled out quite as clearly.

I'm very interested in this, too. Since I have Flame TL, I need a battery that will stay at decent voltage for a while.

the shoria has a rubber cap that plugs into the charge port when not being charged. di electric grease in it and should be fine. I kill my cordless drill batteries all the time and the smart charger always brings it back. the smart charger for these batteries is what i think will keep them working for more that a year or two....hopefully. i went with the 270 cca even though scotty2t keeps telling me that it isn't needed because he has't killed his in a day ride yet. even if he did, it takes 15min to charge.

As long as they dont have a minimum monthly order, Im going to put it in my dealer aplication with them and see if I can keep some of those batteries in stock, The ones from Ballistics that is. They look like a mini optima batt.

Is there anything that makes the shoria better than the Ballistic, to justify waiting until may? Should I get a 12 cell or an 8 cell for a 61X bigbore with an epic?

The Shorai batteries have an integrated charging port that is designed to be used with their charger. Using their charger and their port should give you optimum charging and capacity plus security from overcharging and charging too quickly. If you don't plan to buy/use their charger, I'd go with the Ballistic just to provide one less point of failure.

One thing to also consider is that Shorai specifically states that their batteries are NOT the cells designed for power tools which are 2.3amp/hr cells. The cells that Shorai claims to use are 6amp/hr cells. Based on the shape and amp/hr ratings of the Ballistic batteries though, they're definitely A123 cells (power tool batteries). A123 cells are quality cells but apparently Shorai doesn't like they way those cells handle high amp loads and chose their cells instead. Doesn't mean Shorai's cells are better but that's what they're claiming. Really it comes down to who you trust more in this regard but I thought I would make people aware of what I've researched over the years.

I haven't got mine yet (may ??) but scotty2t has connections at a local bike shop here in Ontario that carried the batteries. He got his and I passed on the other last 155 cca to wait for the 270 cca. Scott runs tl and another friend is using it on his stock system. I was very doubtful, and even Scott said when he was installing the battery that it would not crank his motor. But it did, and he always leaves his msd on. worked all day. It blows my mind. So Scott got his with charger for about $170 CAD and i already have that "green battery tender" 2amp charger. I will be buying the smart charger for it and X2guy has found out that it is 85 bucks. my 270cca is a bit more that scotts 155cca by 20 bucks I think. I will let you know the final price of it whenever i get it. I think any of these battery brands will be good and we just have to learn to charge them manually, which I have heard is okay too.

Ok I just checked when I got home and a lot of the batteries are now in stock on the Shorai website. I got the LFX14A2-BS12 ($155) with the charger ($80) that will balance your cells and diagnose their health. If you go to http://www.track-junkie.com/Shorai-Power-Battery_c679.htm and enter in the code HPC2010, you'll get 15% off. With the coupon code, my total came out to about $198. SWEET!!
