Do you run a big bore and porting?
Would 44's work or would I be better off to go with 46's. I have an after market 44 I would just need another one then I could have those BJ'ed. I'm just trying to avoid changing carbs when I step up to a big bore and porting.
With my first big bore motor (stock ignition, mild compression) Art recommended I run dual 44 BJ's. I ended up getting a deal on a set of used 46's, so I ran those instead.
This season, I am running total loss, higher compression (Avgas), and slightly different porting. Now the 46 BJ's I got are supposedly taking better advantage of my setup.
What will work for you? Depends on how far you get into modding the motor.
I'd ask the man directly what he'd recommend.

you sound exactly like art lol....you sure he's not paying you?
Ha! I've been there, is all. See above, I got a great deal on used 46 BJ's ($250 for the set) but by the time they were rebuilt to like-new condition, I might as well have bought new carbs. And this was with getting a super deal on them used, so I imagine you might end up quite a bit worse paying regular used prices.
Finally, another important thing to remember: A well-tuned carb of one brand is not going to run all that differently than a well-tuned carb of another brand. There is no magic carb pill, so to speak. If you've got a set of tuned Full Spectrums, you probably won't gain much by going to BlackJacks, or vice versa. Substitute any carb brand you want.
I had Art set me up with the BlackJacks because I was paying him to build me a complete setup. So why stop at the carbs? He knows his equipment and how to make it work for his motors. I didn't have to guess around at the jetting, or cooling setup to accommodate the jetting, or the impeller setup, or the ignition curve, etc. That all works together, and I thought it'd be wise to have ONE guy do all of it.
