I bought a motor that has scoring to cylinder and piston on one side only - is it safe to go one over on one cylinder, leaving the other as is, or should I have them both bored to match each other even though one side is clean?

They do it all the time in boat motors but I dont recommend it. It does cost that much more for another piston and bore job.

It is a 62T cylinder at stock 81mm bore, it looks very clean except for the damage.
The previous owner thought it was at 84mm / "Bored to 760" but it is not.
They also said it was ported, but I can't tell visually without something to compare it to.
if the ports are smooth t the cylinder casting its ported. im guessing being 81 mil its not.

Here are some pics, any thoughts on the porting?

Its had a port clean up, hard to say its any good though with out measurement, looks very mild.
I would give it a .5 and a hone to minimise the crappy chamfer if I was building it for a customer, but you need to do both as others have said.

Just crimp a wheel weight to the underside of the smaller piston, there is tons of room. (Kidding obviously) unless you want a hunk of lead flying around in your motor
