doe s anyone know the old js kawi hp ratings are?

i am wandering what the hp ratings are on all the old kawi standup's js300, js 440, js550

Starting from Left to right SLOW,SLOWER and LESS SLOW.

JS550 = 41hp

I remember something about the 300sx having the same thrust at the pump as a 440. But that not the same thing as power........... you can make a 440 scream, and well, a 300 is still a 300.

Stock to stock the 300 is faster but the mods you can do to a 300 are limited and parts are scarce,Group K did a big bore stroker 300 one time and it was very fast but also very unpredictable and it ate starter clutches like they were candy.

I seem to remember that the 1985 JS550 was rated at 40 hp. kaw bumped that up to 43 hp for 1986, same motor diff. exhaust.

I still have 2 Five Fiddies. and there awesome. I have 85 limited and super clean 92 stock reed motor with handing mods. Limited hasn't seen the water in 4-5yrs. I had the 92 out 2 seasons ago. Freakin trip to ride. It pulls pretty rice and is fun. Once you can ride a five five 0 good, you can ride anything.

The 440s were rated at 27 hp, a few less than the 300.

The early js550 up to 1985 had a different exhaust system and porting from the later piston port motors. In 1986 the 550 was revamped with new porting and the bigger Jetpower exhaust to give it a few more ponies.

I must disagree on the 300 being slower than the 440,stock to stock the 300 is faster its power to weight bro and I worked at the Kawi dealer for a while, I have ridden them back to back many times.

What about the 91 five fiddys, when they went to the reed engine? I thought they had even more HP than the 86+ piston valve engines. I had a 87 and once I installed the half pipe and a head that thing would make 47mph on the radar gun, dead even with my brand new stock 94 SJ. I remember some of the other guys that bought new 91-93 reed 550s could pull on past on top end and they had better grunt off the line also.
