freestyle + xgames = y not?

Thats were its at!.... Ive been saying for a while, that it would be sick to have More V-wakes at the Races for us freestyle guys..... I think more people would turn out to compete, just to hit the V-wake..... It was by far the highlight of my first freestyle comp.... and more then likely the highlight of the weekend to all the spectators

it really would take very very little effort for the x games organizers to pull it off. just stick it in before or after wake boarding and its done. they can even use the same judges.

That would be awesome! Hopefully we will start seeing backy variations. But i agree, it would have to be short and sweet to get the attention of x-games hierarchy.

But would we get booed at by the wakeboard fans because they dont want to see it? I mean I love malones 20 foot :brap: off a boat wake but wakeboards might not care for it.

You would probably be suprised.... I bet they would give lots of props/respect!

There was a comment made on the Forum over at "The other site" that the opportunity for an X-Games spot was "Blown, and wouldn't be getting any second chances anytime soon" but I never could get anyone to elaborate on exactly what happened.

It was as though someone from the X-Games was interested but whoever needed to put it together didn't or there was a problem at the event they did show up too for evaluation.

I'd like to know what the story is on that, exactly what happened and why the person commenting on it felt that there was no chance to repair what had gone wrong in negotiations.

You might try posting over there too and see if you get a response.

i dont think there is enough variety in the tricks for it to be interesting for the average people..i would get bored watching everyone do a backflip off the same wake..it would be cool the first time but thats about it..

do you really want to end up like surfers? 30 guys waiting to charge the same wave every weekend?
.

nope...i think we are good right where we are at...

true. but a quick 10 minute do or die with 10 or so guys lined up would keep people interested for at least that long. and the exposure is really what's needed at this point to get some kind of mainstream ball rolling.

but then we go back to what wavedemon said. do you really want to end up like surfers? 30 guys waiting to charge the same wave every weekend?

be careful what you wish for. it's like a catch 22.

sounds like a case for pest control

just remember, you have to keep the business aspect of jet skiing in mind. if the promoters can't make money promoting it, they probably won't.

you can just drop a halfpipe in a big empty parking lot anywhere, build a stage next to it, invite a bunch of bands to play and riders to ride the half-pipe, and sell tickets for $100 and call it the warped tour. food, drinks, shirts, cd's, plastic jewelry stands, etc. = $$$$

A few years ago on a very small beach on a small causeway they were having a "taste of Dunedin" with all the merchants and local bands just like you are describing, and there was a small expo of jetskis- not sure but I believe Malone was there and Stoyer and a few other guys- can't swear but I am pretty sure. maybe someone else remembers it. Anyway they did a freestyle ride in virtually no waves I was blown away and that was all it took. there would have been plenty of room to throw an x-games style event in conjunction or have races or anything else for that matter.

I see all the sides and agree with everything- but the lack of interest- no. I mean for crying out loud there are way more boring things out there on tv now. sorry- golf? curling? whats next extreme bench warming? yawn, car races and off shore racing are for the most part waiting for a crash to happen to see something exciting. it won't take too much effort to find something really dull on tv, even though the tricks may not be as many and go off as big, its still pretty exciting to watch, even if it just to see a guy falling head over heels off his ski - think stoyer at daytona.

I think it is just a matter of time- if the freerides keep happening and the sport keeps growing .....

I mean there are shows at the big theme parks, overseas there are shows, its world wide so its not just "a blip on the radar" it just hasn't caught the attention of the guy smart enough to cash us in yet.

We should start doing some exhibitions at the wakeboard venues. I love wakeboarding and freestyle stand ups. I'm sure the crowd would love to see what we can do. Someone has to figure out how to do 360's off a double up and the crowd would go wild. My wakeboard boat can throw a 4 foot wake if it's set up for wakesurfing, and two boats set up like that riding next to each other could throw a huge wake for tricks. They already have freestyle motocross at Boardstock. Everyone in the wakeboard crowd would love it.
