Have to prime carb to keep running???

new question. post 19 and on.
I cranked fuel into the line. it took about 20 sec to get it all the way to the carb by putting my hand over the carb. work fine. THOUGH now i am only able get the ski to stay running if i continuously pump fuel into the carb using the primer. as soon as it uses up that fuel it dies. why?
things i thought of.
syste.m is getting/wanting the fuel since it sucked it up when i cranked it and filled the lines.
there are a couple air bubbles in the fuel line. ??? they are not getting any bigger or smaller.
bad gas. not that cause its the same gas that im using with the primer
clog in the carb? maybe but would it still suck gas if it was clogged.
tried on and res settings.
thanks for any input.

Priming New Fuel Lines. How?
Just finished putting back together a rebuild that i have changed the gas lines on. How can i get gas to run up the new lines through the filters to the on/off switch and beyond. I have a small rubber pump primer ball but that doesnt do anything and i wouldnt expect it to pull all that gas. any ideas.

I never had much luck blowing in the return line. It works but takes forever when I tried it. I always just take the flame arrestor off and seal my hand over the carb and crank it. Gas gets sucks in the lines real quick.

just did the same thing with the same issue...

just crank the shizz out of it and when its not crankin turn the fuel off and it will hold it from going back in the tank....i had the batt charger hooked while crankin...batt dies quick

took me like 5 min to get it all good to go.....

make sure the fuel tap is turned on then pull off the return line from the carb, blow into it to pressurize the tank, hold the pressure with your thumb on the end of the line, and when fuel starts to trickle out of the carb replace the retrun hose. It takes 10 -15 seconds maybe, also make sure the gas cap is on tight

Are your lnes hooked up correctly? I just put my motor in. Before connecting the lines I blew compressed air through every line on the ski. Hook every thing up and crank with your hand over one of the carburetors get a good seal with your palm. Crank the motor, pause every few seconds to check for fuel on throttle plate and to let the starter rest. If you have a oem fuel filter you will see it fill up, it only takes a couple of bursts of cranking...

When I built my ski last year I was able to prime the lines with just the primer pump. I'm wondering if you don't have something connected up wrong or possible an air leak robbing all your suction?

never had any problems with that either, just crank it a few secs.
My odessy battery has no trouble at all, they rock!

As others have said, if just cranking the engine doesn't work something is wrong because the fuel pump doesn't need a prime to work. Neither would a primer pump. Hopefully it's something easy like needing to hook up the pulse line still or fuel selector turned off.

On a related note, you shouldn't run the starter for more than 15 sec or so w/o a break in between. That is hard on the starter and the battery. I normally have to go two or three times with this before it fires when starting with empty lines.

Something to check, ive made the mistake before of connecting the pulse line in the wrong spot on my SXR. Was crankin the :):):):) out of it with no avail. After one dead battery and lots of swearing I noticed I had the lines wrong, switched them around and she started in about 10 seconds. At that time I realized how much of a dolt I can be. haha

Somehow, your carburetors are not getting fuel from the tank.
You need to find out why.

Possible causes:
Clogged fuel lines or filter
Fuel lines hooked up wrong
Pulse lines hooked up wrong
Fuel pump section of the carb(s) not assembled right.

I would check the fuel lines, fuel pickup tubes, and filter(s) for blockages first.
Then pull the pulse line off the carb. Put your finger over the end and crank the motor. You should be feeling air blown out and sucked back in.

If those two things check out, I would suspect the carburetors.
