true, but just because someone is a dork to you, does not mean you should be a dork back, Idork.

It's the holiday season, so if possible, I would wait until after season and approach him in a civil manner. You never know, the individual may surprise you and prove helpful to you at some point in the future when you are in great need of something.

Edit: Well, not really true, prob abandonment as opposed to a workmen’s lien. You would need to research Illinois Statute for details, but generally there is a value amount to be considered for eligibility, and then there is a time period a workmen’s lien must be filed as well (90 days from the commencement of work in GA for instance, and I think it is 45 days in FL)...

You may have answered some of these questions already:

1. Does a written agreement exist, or was it all strictly verbal?
2. Did you provide a written invoice to the individual for the work performed?
3. Did the individual pay any monies to you at all?
4. Do you have a dated receipt for the replacement motor you installed, or did the individual supply it?
5. Do you still have the old motor?
6. Can you prove the old motor was indeed in need of replacement and a poor diagnosis was not the issue? (you did state you do not do this for a living)
7. What are the various legal time allowances on both ends (plaintiff/defendant)?

If for some reason you intend to forego approaching the individual at this point to resolve the issue, you should seek counsel licensed in Illinois before you make a move, particularly due to the owner’s network capabilities via occupation. You need a full legal understanding and your ducks in a row. If you do not move within legal means every step of the way, the individual can come back on you through civil (there are always three sides to a story, and an extended period of time has elapsed). DMV can only tell you so much…they can not give legal advice, and your situation seems to be a bit complicated now.

I personally would wait until the end of January and approach the individual again. Officer's typically make low salaries for high-risk aggravating work. By then, the Officer will have had some time to recoup from seasonal expenses, and your odds are better. Just be honest and say you need the money and the space, then see what transpires.

This story sounds familiar. I got an XP from a buddy who had it in his garage for about 2 years. The guy who owned it told my friend he doesn't want the ski anymore. My friend just gave it to me. Now it's sitting on my front porch.
