Done the search, grind down a wrench or crowfoot
shallow head bolts with washers to the inside holes
but are there other tricks to make it easier?
I have the motor apart; is it preferable to attach the exhaust manifold before assembly? or not . . . . . .
thanks!

You can drop the motor in pretty easily with the manifold and headpipe installed.
The only hint I can think of is to get those 2 bolts pretty snug b4 tightening the rest. As you tighten the rest, they will snug-up more, leaving you a lot fewer 1/8 turns at a time.

I hate those two damn bolts! Ive killed many perfectly good 12mm wrenchs tryin to make the tiniest wrench possible... Then they bend! Some one make a tool to make that job easy and you will have a gold mine.

I have the cylinder off the case
would it be easier to attach the manifold before bolting down the cylinder?

Work it where it's easy. If you've got it on the bench, put it together on the bench. With a little twist and maybe a buddy to help with the weight, it will go in with the intake and carbs, exhaust mani and head pipe.

Bolting down the cylinder should be no problem either way. Put the whole darn motor together and plop it in the ski!
The b-pipe mani (2 bolts) will be a biotch no matter what.

HINT: I don't know what you're going for as far as performance/pipe water screws..... But get that bottom screw at least close to where you want it b4 dropping it in. (it's a biotch to adjust in the ski)

The OEM bolts have 12mm heads. IMHO, it's essential to use those over 13mm heads.
I have NEVER head a problem with a slightly ground down 12mm wrench.
I think that manifold is one of the easiest aftermarket exhaust manifolds to install/remove.

Use 12mm...I wouldn't even try using 13mm
Side note, when your putting your coupler on spray lots of Windex on your chamber and then on the inside of the coupler and it will just slide in to place

do not use 13mm bolts it will be almost impossible with the bigger head size. i use a stubby 12mm craftsman wrench works good for me.

I found some chrome bolts
that are 8 x 1.25 with 10 mm heads!
the bolt head has a built in washer
these should work!

the easiest trick is use bolts with under sized heads near the manifold outlet.

my other trick is use a water based lube (like KY or what ever you have laying around) for the coupler.
