MSD going cheap?

Those OEM bullets were hard to come by earlier this year so maybe that one was made during the shortage.?.?.?

Why return it though if it's going to be that much of a hassle? As long as it works, why not just crimp on the good ones, solder them like you want and move on? I'll ship you some if you need them.

It's the principal OCD, it shouldn't have been made this way to begin with and if I do anything to it the one year warranty is voided. Plus up here in Canada land, after the exchange and taxes it cost me $460.00! :O When I pay that kind of coin I at least expect to have a properly outfitted component.

It's the retail price MSD has on their page. They are showing it for $291, after exchange up here it works out to about $385. I had to buy it from where I did because everyone else wanted an additional $60+ for international shipping and would not ship to p.o. boxes. MSD won't even ship to Canada let alone p.o. boxes.

I meant you send me money, I buy it and and then mail it to you. Maybe I'm missing the excange rate but if all your numbers are in usd then I could get you one for likely 100 dollars less. Just a though, sorry to get off topic. And I understand you wanting them to fix it.

I would just run it until you have problems, which I know sucks and I know the pains of ordering stuff to canada as well but a few rides with your new found power should help ease the pain a little. I think lower quality and higher prices is the wave of the future we will just have to deal with. Msd could probably care less about their watercraft division because it is such a small part of their product line. Look at the prices the car guys get on their boxes and it shows where they put all their time. Just my two cents on the matter.

Hey no worries tzane, it's all good :D I appreciate everyone's perspective on this. If the thing were totally sound from the beginning we wouldn't be having this discussion but it is what it is. I would be much more willing to keep it too if MSD were to at least attempt to look like they care lol. But it comes down to what cookn said, they don't and it looks like this is the future for us...pretty bad, pretty bad. Oh well, I'll keep in touch about updates on what happens though.

OCD Solutions :D I still have not heard back from MSD but, I did hear back from the Canadian supplier where I bought from and they have approved the return. So it seems that to this point, the return request has been accepted. Once the final decision comes in I will post up those end results. Just off topic for a moment, OCD...have you heard from anyone in Fort Mac? The coverage up here seems to have dried up after a few weeks of the fires. I hope everyone out there is getting along reasonably well, more so when thinking the snow season is getting into their area now.

Success!! Still no word back from MSD to me personally in regards to my messages sent September 23, but the company I bought the enhancer from came through for me and my full refund arrived last night :D I'm thinking my new approach might be OCD Solutions, send out both my stock 62t CDI's to him and have the rev limit mod done. After reading a few replies on his master list about the mod, it seems to be a great way to go. Once my season is done, then it will be time to start putting together the new plans for next season...it never ends lol

Glad to hear the vendor stepped up at least.

The next time I pull my ebox I'm going to swap in a modded OEM CDI. I run an Epic now but I keep pulling timing out so I may as well be running a stock CDI at this point.

Agreed, I did get the chance to run an MSD enhancer, and yes it did have some noticeable gain on bottom end albeit only slightly, but in all honesty for the very minimal gains vs. the very expensive price tag I will not ever do it again. The only part I really appreciate is the higher rev limit which I like. My OEM unit maxes out at 6960 so a little bit more would be nice while still having the OEM reliability and quality.

Its not just the rev limit , the enhancer has a far better timing curve then the stock cdi but maybe your setup is not at the point where it can take advantage of advanced timing

It's pretty wild that they returned a used electrical part, cheap connectors or not your usually SOL when trying to return any electrical parts. In my experience it's usually a final sale item.

You're probably right cookn, I'm only running the common engine mods...ADA head, 38 carbs, carbon reeds, ported cases and exhaust. Nothing special. When I had my dry pipe on, it always had a slight flat spot on the holeshot, the only other enhancer I had seemed to fill in that flat spot. Plus the top end was better in terms of the higher rev limit. But for overall performance gain, I didn't really notice much. The ski sounded cool though when you crack it and the pump hooked up. Made me think of how race skis sound when they go ripping by the finish line. Other than that, I think I will be much happier with OCD's mod work.

Agreed to that jetx, I was fully anticipating being stuck with it or at the very most getting a replacement unit. I didn't hassle them either, just gave them plenty of time and one update about not hearing from MSD. They didn't wait too long to get a refund arrangement started. Because of that though, I rank them highly for their support. I bought it from TDotperformance.com

Glad they took care of you. But I will say this. I am on my 2nd Enhancer since 1999. I replaced my first one in 2006. Ended up not being the problem. Still have it. Still works as far as I know!. Now, One Unit #1. Many ends have been replaced. Moisture gets in there. At times I used regular crimp ends because I did not have the heat shrink kind. Unit #2. Same thing, I have replaced several ends also. Most of the time, they would break when I had the EBox apart. Usually from disconnecting them and they let go..............

That said, In principal, the company you dealt with took care of you. But you cut your nose of inspite of your face. You could have just easily replaced the ends with heat shrink type connectors and used dielectric grease on all the connections. You gave up some performance going to a mod stock OEM. Not a huge amount. But when you add up all the mods, you have taken away from your total package.

Comparing products made today to ones made 18 years ago may not be a fair comparison. If they went cheap outside, have they gone cheap inside too?

I think I agree with his move to return it and not gamble on it lasting for years with no warranty to back it up.
