My surf/freeride/freestyle RN build

Nice progression and attention to detail! Could you go into a little more detail on the strap bracket you made up? Did you loop the strap through it then sew it, or just wedge it in there between the bracket and the turf? I'm also anxiously awaiting my tom21 hood - looks well built. I'm also having him make up the clean nosepiece attachment.

I looped it through the ratchet first and sewed it, at about center of my piece of strap. Then I looped it through the bracket and sewed the end of the strap. I used a "heavy duty" program/pattern on the sewing machine and made several passes. It was a b*tch, since the strap was so short. I also put some u-shaped rubber on all edges where the strap goes to reduce the risk of damage to it. I also sewed the entire lenght from the "y" to the end ,on both sides. I even melted the end and hammered it while hot to make it more durable. The ends that you see in front of the pole bracket are just folded double and sewed. I have done this in the past and it seems to hold up well. I hope that made it somewhat clearer?
Thanks for the compliments, good luck with your hood!

Did you move the Bilge outlet from the side of the ski to the top of your tray? That is where I wish mine were, which would also allow me to shorten me hoses up by a lot!

If so... How the hell did you get the nut off the back that were most likely seized on there? I've tried taken mine off before and they will never budge! And, what did you do to paint over them so well?

Thanks!

When I installed the bilge outlet I used anti-seize on the threads so it was easy to take off. In your case; take out the dremel and cut off the nut, get a new outlet.

I used to have a single outlet with a "y" from 2 bilge pumps. I glassed over the old hole and smoothed it over with silica mixed with epoxy. Sanding and painting, sanding and painting...then some sanding and finnished it off with a polish. I found an auto paint that was close to my paint in color. It is not perfect, but looks great from 3 feet away.

I'd say that my bilge install is much cleaner now and I believe it will work better as well. I think using the "y" caused the pumps to cavitate time from time.

Good to know! But, why did you decide to use a "Y" from the bilges rather than using two bilge outlets?

I just didn't want to carve an extra hole on the side. In my mind I was holding out to when I could relocate the hole.

I got it when dumpster diving! A local welder made this to be used as a cart for plastic boxes at a place I used to work at. When they reduced the production these went into the dumpster, I fished one out. I could get you a couple of pics in about 2 weeks, I am on the road.
Thanks for the thumbs up, btw!

Sweet deal! Thanks!

Manifold and head pipe port matched and enlarged. Dual cooling on manifold. Stinger end modification on chamber (dual exit tubes, water injection in stinger similar to that of a dry pipe).

Glad you like it, it is good to hear all the nice feedback! :purr:

I got a new bendix bushing from Jetmaniac. I installed it and then the mag cover using some nice new hardware. Then I wet sanded and polished the new hood. I didn't spend hours doing this, but it is more shiny now. I also cut and formed some pieces of turf to protect the gelcoat (and me). I opened up some holes for the breather tubes and installed them. I got some beefed up hood hooks from Jetmaniac, they're on now.

This some HQ pics after all is done. Maiden voyage today, everything work ok. I do have a few things to sort out, I'll be making some calls to my builder about jetting as an example. Will add more text. Enjoy the pics for now!

More pics! I could feel it was a while since I rode last. The ski felt different because of less weight and lower pole bracket. The foot holds seams good this far, just different. The new Dakine strap is really comfy, very wide. I need to do some small adjustments to the nose piece and torque down the pole some more. I have an jetting issue I need to address; I'll be calling X-scream about this. I am a bit surprised about that since most guys write that they just adjust idle and ride on their x-scream motors?!

Maybe add a section of 3M clear bra where your strap rubs the hood. I plan on doing that to mine especially since mine will be painted. It's pretty good stuff.

I was thinking about it. Will you make it Y-shaped to follow the entire lenght of the straps?

Hmmm.. yea I was debating that.. I was definitely going to use it where you used turf in the front. I'll probably lay some down for the hell of it in case sand particles work their way in there..

I think you need to use turf under the ratchet. It seems it digs into the turf pretty bad. Just my 2 cents...

Man I am loving this thread. I'm in college and you had me reading this thing last night for the longest time when I was supposed to be studying for finals ha. This is a sweet build, very nice job. I love your attention to detail, I'm the same way. I have a few questions though: 1) I love that quick connect idea for the battery. would you mind sending me more info on that, and is it possible to include the bilge with the quick connect? and 2) I'm kind of confused about the drains you got with the low pro ss screws on the chines? Whats the significance of that when you have the quick drain and bilges?
