Other New to x help me decide what ski to build

Hey guys I am from southwest Michigan right by Lake Michigan and a ton of smaller inland lakes. I have been working on PWCs for years now and own a small PWC shop.

I am trying to figure out what I should build. Obviously it depends on what kind of deal I can get but I am torn between building a B1 1200, 701 B1 or a stand up or both lol. I have a couple sit down skis for myself and my wife but I am bored as hell with them!

Plan on riding Lake Michigan and flat water inland lakes. I really want to backflip a ski and want to build something to do so

What do you guys suggest? Anyone have a blaster superjet 750 sx/sxi they want to trade?

You want a superjet platform to build from. Ideally the aftermarket hulls that the superjet drive lines bolt up to. It's a mistake to get an SXR or SXI kawi. You think its better until you max yourself out quickly. Start with the superjet. Either SN or RN. Guys like each respectively. Ask the guys you wrech for to demo each to figure out which hull you like better to start with and ride the piss out of it for a year. The bottom deck's are identically up to 07. The top deck's are a bit different. I find i like the SN style more because the center of gravity is lower than the RN. The RN is newer and has a higher price. But there are more handling options. Even so there are conversion brackets and hacks that make that point almost mute.

So after getting your superjet mod the steering for quicker throw and glass in footholds and or footstraps to huck it up high in the air and stay connected to the ski. Then work on the bolt on driveline mods. You want a B-pipe first, then a 9-15 hooker prop. Then get a highi compression girdled head for it. You can back flip your superjet off a 3-4 foot wake with practice now. Send your cylinder off to be ported by your choice of engine builder. You will definetly back flip it off a nice wake now. for sure.

Now spend 4-10 grand on your aftermarket hull of choice. By your second season riding stand up's you are capable of flat water flipping.

ive got a 1100 yami motor if you need one. if your riding flatwater and want to backflip, stand up 100% obviously.

I have read countless threads about guys dropping tons of cash into building superjets only to sell them and build an AM hull because they never really do what they were hoping they would. I personally have a SJ and wish I would have spent the cash on an AM hull. My advice would be to buy a cheap older SJ (2-3k or less), ride it until you outgrow it, and save the cash you would have put into mods. By the time you outgrow your SJ you'll have a bunch of money laying around to dump into your aftermarket ski.

FYI, rickters XFS will flip with a stock Yamaha 701 motor in it. skip to 4:20 on this video to see what you could do with this hull matched with just a 701

Fixed that for you! lol

regardless, I bet it would cost nearly as much in mods to flat water flip a SN as it would to build an XFS with a 701, and although I haven't seen your ski, I can assume that most would rather sport the XFS than any bad a$$ SN :)

Thanks for all the advice guys!! Keep it coming!! I wish i could afford a Rickter hull!!! anyone have a AM hull for sale for cheap? haha.....

Anyway I think I'm going to try and talk one of my customers into selling me his SN. It's a 650 right now and has a coffman pipe. I think I might be able to talk him into selling it to me cheap!! I have a 61x 701 I could drop in it. What's the best carb set up on a SN? Single 44 or 46? Dual 44?

I wouldn't suggest even worrying about a AM hull until your held back by a current hull that you thrash the piss out of. I started on a Kawi 750 and out grew in fastttt even as a noob. Then got a Rn and that elevated me alot ( in my 2nd season ) now I'm on a fs2. And doing rolls an such. But I'd def start by getting a clean Rn with mods already. Tons of great deals on super jets these days. Then just log in hours. And don't watch videos of world class riders flat water flipping 701 hulls. It's not a good comparison lol.

id advise picking up clean Rn an just seeing where you go from there.

There are Bob's in complete skis for sale section right now for 8 to 10k ish. If you can't afford that your best bet is the superjet. You can find one in beast mode for 5 k sometimes less. And you can backflip a superjet on lake michigan no problem. But be ready to eat :):):):) while you learn to do it. No I have not yet tried it. I have a lot to learn with my superjet still.

Pondracer, I mean no disrespect, but hull design plus part aquisition makes yamaha the choice and there is really no debate in this. I have mad respect for the sxr backflip videos I've seen and whatnot. But those gentlemen are just dealing with the hand they previously delt themselves and usually go AM hull anyways. You cannot deny overall yamaha is king for this sport so there is no sense for someone new to make the same mistakes we all have. I started with a 300sx, and the money I spent on the boat plus trying to fix it could have just gotten me my superjet.

If i were you I would do what I should have personally done at the start. Find an SN superjet. 650's go for 1500 usually in the midwest. 701's go for 1500+ depending on the parts. If you can find a 650 superjet for 1500 bucks with a stainless prop i think you should jump on it quickly. They really are very nice skis and are ridiculously reliable. You have so many upgrade options it's silly including in dropping in a 701 and changing the 650's carb jets. But the 650's make good reliable power especially with a prop.
