Octane Octane Refoam

the 2 inch extruded polystyrene does seem like it would be easier to do than solid foam. how you cut your hull seems like the way to do it, it seems like it would be easier to put back together. if you could post more pictures that would be great. Thanks

i bought a 2 inch thick sheet of Extruded Polystyrene from Lowes for $30 and cut it into blocks as needed to fill the bottom of the hull. i've taken a few pics along the way, i'll resize them and get them posted.

you really do need to be careful cutting to deep into the tray, cooling lines, mid shaft, and exhaust could all get nicked if you aren't careful.

i am going to be sick!!! lol looks good.

yeah, i have many more pics, just not loaded to the computer yet.

Ryan, believe me it was heart wrenching to make those cuts but i really had to do it. one of the pump bolt inserts was spun in the glue so i had to cut into it no matter what. i'm going to replace the inserts with some stainless hardware, maybe install a trim tube and a scupper tube while its opened up, and hopefully by the end of the month it will be all sealed up again.

Parts ordered!

New billet throttle (broke the OEM. Been using a bicycle lever)
Complete gasket kit w/ crankseals
.5 over pistons w/ rings
Intake and 46 Mikuni's
Motor mounts (2 were broken)
Driveshaft seals, dow pins and new bearing

I will be cleaning up some parts today in the sandblaster to repaint. Also decided to paint the boat black with a white bottom. as soon as I get the tray glassed back together I will repair some spots on the bottom of the boat and begin to sand the gelcoat. Going with black and red turf.

Lets see those pics if you have em.

Feel free to post any pics of your Octane refoams here, don't worry about threadjackin'. I think it's good to keep them all here. :woot:

I spent some time at the sandblast cabinet (thanks 58vwragtop) taking care of business. I am painting several parts like my flywheel cover, dome covers, handpole, etc...

More work done, finally.

I finished filling the tray area with a couple sealed plastic juice bottles and poly foam. I put my cut out pieces back into the tray by adding just a few aluminum pieces glued and riveted to the tray for support and alignment around the edges of the cuts. I then riveted my cut pieces to those small straps of aluminum.

I then mixed up some Phelonic Microballoons (US COMPOSITES) with some resin and hardner to fill the gaps from my cutoff wheel. I mudded all the cuts in really well, pressing the mixture into the gap to fill the void. Mixed it up to peanut butter consistency.

I still have a ton of sanding and glassing in my future, I need to get this thing ready for paint.

Got all my parts in today. Cracked the lower end open to replace the crank seals.... bad crank. Inner bearings and outer bearings were shot. I will probably send it to crankworks for a rebuild. Anyone use anybody else?

Ok this keeps geting worse.......

BAD CRANK..... probably going SBT

now I looked at all the motor mounts and they all need to be replaced. Anyone have any Octane motor mounts???

Sanding is a beach....

More done. Sanded top and bottom deck. Getting all the scratches out of a former surf boat's bottom deck isn't fun. Knocked out the majority with some higher 150 grit. I have some deeper scratches and other areas that need some filler, I will finish those then be ready for paint.

better to find out now. then when its blows up chucking parts all over the place!! i like to tear down my motors ever 300 hours or so just to take a look. saved a lot of money that way.

I bought this thing mid summer last year..... and yep I am thankful to find out now that it was bad.

I will be glassing hopefully this weekend, going to finish all the prep for paint. I think I'm going with a bit darker red, black, and some silver.

:Banane35: to 58vwragtop for the design and paint.

Im thinkn #1 with the design that will be put on it. I'll have to go by the paint store and see the color chips. Im like the other red color on hot hues site- hot rozberry too. Let me finish drawing up a couple more pattens and then decide. But right now it go with #1--- not #3. I'll buy the paint....... If I can paint it fairy pink!!!
