Saved my cylinder head!

Well, looking at a shelf full of cylinder heads last week, I came upon a poor old yam 650 (6R7) head that had pock marks from a bearing failure. I took pity on it, and ushered it over to the mill. Now I have a spare 701 head with freshly machined domes. Once I cc the domes, I'll cut the head accordingly for the compression I want. Anyone have anymore junk heads that need a new home, or need to be saved from the scrap yard?

snow, in the machining proccess of your head.... Is that machine chatter on the finish cut of the domes or did you make it like that on purpose?

while you had it up there why didnt you cut some O-Ring grooves in it?

The oring idea crossed my mind, too. The groove for an outer o-ring would be a nightmare, though.

The flash makes the finnish look crazy, but it's actually not too bad. I didn't intend to have the finnish like that, but after Ocean Pro's swirl heads I thought I'd see how it worked out. What I've found, is that my mill has a little verticle play in the spindle bearings. Not sure what I have to do to eliminate it yet.

WFO, make me an offer?

Well, I would think it's worth $20 a hole plus shipping. I have done individual domes, too.
Not that I'm looking for a new passtime, but I could use some fun money.

It looks like you took two cuts to complete the cut. I would make smaller cuts, maybe 4 of them and try and get a smoother cut.

Oh and you dont need a O ring on the water jacket, just use some good silicone.

Thats about what I used to pay Rossier engineering to do them for me,sounds fair enough I will see what I can dig up to send to you.

QuickMick. Yes, that might do it. I guess the next one will be a new experiment. It's worth trying the o-ring groove, too. I have a few motors to build, so I'll try it.

so $20 a dome? i might just have to send mine to you. if you do this how much more CC per dome will it add?

It would depend on how deep the damage is, and how much could be cut off the gasket surface. It's very possible to keep a 1 piece head very close to the original compression.

Individual domes would lose compression ( except for polaris liberty twins)
