Shortened Pole

I am looking to shorten my RN Pole by about 3 in. I have looked online and in the search bar here without a lot of success. Maybe im not searching the right key words? Anyway i want to get an idea of what this entails and what glue/epoxy should be used. My understanding is:

1.)Drill out rivets on the bottom
2.) Cut desired amount off of pole
3.) Re-drill for rivets and put pole back into bracket with glue/epoxy?

Is this too simplified or is this on par with what needs to be done?

One tip to add......before you epoxy the base back in......first position the shortened pole back into the pivot point with base and bolt in and then align the pole and base up perfectly and put two or three rivets in place to lock in the position....then take it out, remove rivets and epoxy pole and base, re-rivet the whole way round by lining up the holes with the rivets you just removed.....this will ensure you are spot on with alignment.
