Sooooo...Maybe...

I am trying to figure something out. Lets just say that I was maybe, toying with the idea of taking the clips that I have been making lately ("The Way Things Were", JK Flip Off, "The Renegades" and one more from the SFF last year) and condensing them all together into a dvd. Add an intro, credits, a few extras, and run it out.

And once that was done post it up as a bittorent file, for free.

I know its all stuff people have seen before but to see it full rez is something else. Would those who are familiar with BT be willing to get it a few days earlier than everyone else and help seed? Would anyone unfamiliar with Bitorrent be motivated to learn how to use it if this was the only way to get a dvd copy of all of these clips?

This would be the savior for "In The Blood" since I have no other plans for the title or the footage that I have already collected.

At this point I am just trying to get a gauge for the interest level before I decide if I want to tighten everything up and do this (it takes a fair bit of work). So.... lets hear it... yea or nay?

I do NOT suggest bit torrent for people who do not know how to use it.

It is against every acceptable use policy with Internet Service Providers.

Having said that, I don't condone torrenting, but if you must here are a few terms that may help: torrenting on random ports, encryption, and proxies.

Luckily for thousands of people, ISP's are just slapping people on the wrist at this point.

Torrenting is a great idea for this, a fantastic one at that. It is exactly what torrenting was designed to do, but with ISP's cracking down on torrenting industry wide, it also includes those who are torrenting legally which is what is proposed.

You wont get into any trouble if you aren't sharing copyright material. If this video is to be offered free of charge, and the owners/creators intend it to be distributed in this fashion, ISPs have no place sending you messages such as the one posted above. Obviously, your particular ISP may have an issue with the your bandwidth usage while you are seeding (which is why many employ bandwith shaping) but they can't terminate your service unless you are going against their TOS. I know TOS have clauses stating the service isnt to be used for transfer of copyright material, but I dont think they state anywhere that you cant use Torrents or alternate methods of file sharing.

i know what you're saying, but Chris isn't talking music or movies here or other copyright infringements... he made and owns the material (video), prolly minus the music in the background.

If it's just a few clips it shouldn't be a very full DVD. Whip it up and see how big the ISO is running. I would be glad to host the ISO on my web site. I don't use squat of my bandwidth.

Alright, whoa...slow down everyone...

1. Everything that would be in the video would be free and clear of copyright, no infringement issues. I can't really sit here and get on people's cases about copyright online if i did not have my own ducks in a row, right?

2. Why BT? Well, for one the file is going to be a 4.3 gb file. I have not checked Rapidshare or any of the large file sharing sites yet but that is a large file, no matter how you cut it. BT was designed for sharing super large files over the internet, it just so happens that the next gen of online piracy occurs via the same system.

I did this with a streetbike video two years ago and it worked very well. I got copies of the video out to places that it would not have neccesarily gotten to if a person had to purchase a hard copy via the mail. The world is changing and people do not want to wait for something to arrive in the post. If you do not want to participate thats fine, and that is the reason for this post to begin with, if people are uncomfortable with BT then maybe that is not the route to go, but at the same time there are not many other avenues to share whole dvds easily.

You said clips so I assumed a partial DVD not a full one. Didn't see your "run it out". Using a standard web download wouldn't work well for 4.3gig even if you had expensive industrial strength hosting.

Even to download legal Linux ISOs I avoid bittorrent. Even if you are legit the people spying on you don't have elite hacker (733t haxor) skills. They make a mistake, you get a letter and need a lawyer. You are guilty until proven innocent. Thought that was supposed to go the other way.

BT is an amazing technology but over the years people using it for bad things and non-talented people looking for that "evil" made it a bad thing. Then there are greedy ISPs that don't want to spend the money on bandwidth. The ISPs are violating the standards of networking to make BT not work well.

There is more than a couple reasons reasonable quality video on demand isn't working out. People accept the mediocre video quality on Youtube to get smooth play and the content they want. Too bad it's usually testicular injury.
