Why couldn't this ski be used to do a flip before? :dunno:

You sure that pole is short enough?

Wow that pole is going to hurt your back if you ride for any extended length of time. Also cutting the lip barely has any effect on how the ski rides in the water. Sure it has less drag but cutting the chines is what really creates the nose high condition that I would think you're looking for.

because we are all too scared lol.... everybody is trying to grow a set before the season comes to an end. these guys are convinced they need trim though.

I second the pole comments. That things gonna suck in the surf. Mine's a little over -5 and it's fine for flatwater but in the surf I could definately go for another couple of inches.

i think he has a d cut plate on the way... that plate was on the ski when they got it.

I am running a -2 pole and -2.5 xmetal steering setup. i will be cutting 2 more inches off the pole this winter. it still feels long in the surf at -4.5

the plate is going or getting cut. this is an in progress ski. i have all the parts kicking around never did a full blown surf only boat. my normal sj is more of a cc boat that i jump waves with. i cant give up the handling. this boat is an x race boat i got cheap and wanted to make it as easy as possable to try and backflip. this is a team effort to try and get one of the crew to do a backflip. i figure 1 of us has to get it done. then the rest of us can figure out how to do it also. (and grow a set lol)

cant hurt to have one set up to do it .+ if i drilled it into the sand i still have the other sj to ride still!!
we have a water depth issue here where the waves are most of the time is 2 or 3 feet of water. so the fear is smashing into the sand with the ski on top of me. (or who ever is riding it)

Backies are mostly commitment, not equipment. :bigok:

x2

Being also a recent flipper, I would add technique and commitment, not equipment.

However, for flatwater backys: technique, commitment, and equipment(trim, motor, hull)

You have a good point. I don't have to worry about that in Pacific Surf. I don't attempt backies until the wave is at least head high, so the water must be at least that deep.
I know I've nosed some in 90 degrees down coming down from 15 feet, and I didn't come close to touching bottom.

my sn is now a no nose . its ugly but it still works. it just cant take another shot like it did. it looks like the learning curve for a back flip may cost me a hull at some point.this ski is that hull. (i hope not but it is what it is) like i said this is a here you try it boat.

only got to it today for a few hours. the cut on the the pole is a -7 from stock octane. works out to a -4 for a superjet.i have a umi turn plate on it for now. mite go another -2 with the turn plate. 4 new motor mounts. still have to pull the jet pump and see whats in it.
0 tubbies on . some glass work for the sides just incase. lol i need to do the nose bu tit can wait. (starting to get cold and running out of time to ride.)
