Im no surf rider, but i think you need to hit the wave at a different time. Before it breaks at its peak when its curling. Looks like you were hitting a broken wave.

thats how most people, if not all say to do a bf in surf. its the most easy way to do a backflip, but the waves or swells we get here just dont ever curl or break at the right time. hard to write in words but basically you can chase the wave till 10 feet before the beach when it actually breaks, so thats what we have to work with around these parts.....sucks but i guess if you can bf here you can bf anywhere.
