Thats nice. I sold my plated 97 300exc that I started to motard out and have been looking for a newer plated 2smoker since the day I got rid of it.

had a drz400 enduro, then sold it and bought a KTM 450 enduro both bikes were plated...

the KTM was way better in the dirt, but it left me wanted a smoker due to the weight....the dr Z as way better on the roads, the wiring was far superior to the KTM...

the KTM was way nuttier and more FUN to ride, but if kept mostly to the street the dr Z was better...if anything just because of the headlight

bike for bike, I miss the Z more........

how longs it take to swap the wheel set?

its funny...when I had the 450 all I could think about was sumo wheels for it, but everyone kept telling me no no no no no the suspension is all wrong and it wont work ha.

for street use, the suspensions fine. the reason the suspension is set up different is for drifting. the "rake" needs to be changed in the front or else the front end will wash out on you. the rear is stiffened up so your not bouncing around while your trying to drift. mine isnt plated, but i acted like a holligan on the streets when it ran. i want a newer yz450f but my skis are priority. the hardest thing about the wheel swap is truing the spokes if you put them together yourself. i laced and trued mine myself. had them laced, trued, rim strap installed, tire and tubes, and mounted on the bike within a couple hours. granted i was working at the stealership and had access to a tire machine and race stands.

I would love sluttys bike. Saw it up close and its clean and perfect size for tearing around town. I gotta make a 75 mile trip everyday but I still want to think I could do it on this bike everyday.

i had a cbr600, and just with the street fighter front end and dirtbike bars it made all my trips great! the upright position is great. you'd be good at 75 miles rags

I have the wheels set up w/ their own sprockets and rotors so it may take 20-30 min to switch them out. I'm gonna tell you right now that sumo setup is a totally different feel.. the center of gravity is lowered by so much that the bike feels like a freaking go cart... it's amazing!! Not to mention you get looks from every other biker type on the road. I had a audience at cycle gear today in love w/ the thing. People just are not used to it in this area at all... If it was cali, you would probably not even get a glance....

suspension is an issue, but I do not think it's a game changer

yamaslut, for your ktm (since theyre used quite often for SM) you should be able to find triple trees to change your rake. my yz is an 02. nobody makes anything for that :):):):):)er. also what year is your ktm? rule of thumb, fluids break down every two years. a rebuild on the front end may surprise the crap out of you. the rear needs nitrogen so a local shop could rebuild it. rebuild them with stiffer springs. you can generally buy suspension springs for your weight. i went for about 20-30lbs over my weight. again mine was not a race bike. it was just for general "dicking around" for your street bike, you dont want a full race set up, they hardly move haha after you get some heavy duty springs. all your " clickers" should get you where you want to be for suspension and rebound hope this helps

My monster is listed for sale. Time to start looking for a motard! KTM's are pretty common around here ( woods bikes ). So I was considering converting one to a sumo since they can be had cheaper than a DRZ. But I think i'll keep my eyes peeled for a good deal on a DRZ. I'll mostly be riding street with short commutes, and drz seems to be best rated in that field. But if a good deal pops up on a ktm or a yami wr250x/450f I may consider it. Only time will tell!

Yankeeboy, the drz's are great bikes. And very reliable. But slow. My yz250f would take one, at least until I top out at like 60-65. I guess for street use they're considerable, but I like a bike to have balls. Those just aren't it to me. See if you could find one to ride. You may change your mind. You may love it.

I agree on fresh fluids if they haven't been done yet. My moto bike gets fork fluid changed every 15 hrs and year shock fluid and nitrogen recharge every 30.

There is a lot that can be accomplished on suspesion setup without spending big $$.
Have you set your sag yet? Adjusting the fork tube height in the tripple clamps can also have a great affect on handling. For street use, compared to riding off road, I would increase compression on your clickers, and slow down rebound. I also found about an extra 10mm of sag on the rear over my dirt settings and about a 2mm higher (as in sticking out the top of the tripple clamp) on the forks got the 450's we had converted handling pretty well, or at least for street riding.

I know a day of playing with suspension settings can make a world of difference.

hit up supermotojunkies.com i am/was a member over there. i never get on anymore because my motor blew, and i have different priorities now. but i have too much money in it to let it go for cheap. so it sits on a race stand in the corner of my shop.

I did troll around smj for a bit, and for the street the wr and drz seemed most popular in their street section. I did hear these two arent the best in terms of performance; but I need to find a happy medium between power and reliability/maintenance. 500mile oil change/valve adjustments just arent something i want to deal with. Budget also plays a role (<$4000 when all said and done). Fun is a big factor i'm looking for, but i'm open to any options that fall into my range. Given the opportunity i'd love to try out a few different bikes.
