I did troll around smj for a bit, and for the street the wr and drz seemed most popular in their street section. I did hear these two arent the best in terms of performance; but I need to find a happy medium between power and reliability/maintenance. 500mile oil change/valve adjustments just arent something i want to deal with. Budget also plays a role (<$4000 when all said and done). Fun is a big factor i'm looking for, but i'm open to any options that fall into my range. Given the opportunity i'd love to try out a few different bikes.

I have the "R"/woods version of the WR. I threw a huge back sprcket on the rear to get the gears for trail riding, but before that it would cruise pretty good even at 70mph in 6th. Stock exhaust and emmisons crap its a turd, but like putting a bpipe/rejetting a SJ....the FMF pipe, FMF fuel programmer, and airbox mods REALLY woke it up. Night and day difference. If you are not crashing it in the woods and breaking things, its pretty much just a change the oil and tighten the chain bike as far as maint goes. Valve adjust is like 50,000 miles or some crazy interval like that. LOVE the fuel injection too, starts just as good and easy at 80F then at 20F. Its rated for +75mpg or something like that. I am actually thinking of getting a set of WR250X SM wheels for my WRR and getting a KTM for the woods, but thats not going to happen this year.

that's BS. this is already the most lenient forum i've been a member of. offer a service to the site or freaking call him dude. you should put his thread count back down to zero for these shenanigans

Nick, how's your 250 do on the street? I can find those models pretty cheap, after I throw some wheels and brakes on them I could come in underbudget. Any downsides to the 2stroke for daily commuting?

mixing gas and the twitchy feeling of a 2 smoke is about the worst thing to deal w/. I like the weirdness of it being a smoker and all the silliness that comes with it. I will say it's definitely not for everyone.
