with all the technology we have, im sure it could be done. However, that would require some significant investment to R&D and i dont see that happening anytime soon.

You do know that basically all they are doing is making a battery right, when batteries are charged hydrogen gas is released, then they are venting the hydrogen gas to the air filer to be burned along with the fuel air mixture.

Ok so heres my idea since the batteries give off hydrogen gas while charging, lets get an electric car with a trunkload of batteries and a small hydrogen powered engine for backup,as the hydrogen powered engine drives the vehicle it also charges the batteries, you capture the hydrogen as it is released from the batteries to drive the small engine ,sounds logical to me.

However, the amount of hydrogen released would not be enough to keep running the engine to charge the batteries. you would hit the point where the batteries are dead and theres no fuel (hydrogen to run the engine)

This is true but you also capture the hydrogen while you charg the batteries plugged into the wall socket at your house, that should extend the range somewhat after all this is basically an electric vehicle with small secondary engine backup.

An Electrical engineer friend of mine was doing the same thing to run a lawn mower but that was entirely Hydrogen powered. The main problem was keeping the head on the engine BOOM. The second problem was keeping the ignited hydrogen from burring back past the injector to the storage tank. He tried many check valves and never got one that would stop the burn back.

haha well sorry to bust ya'll bubbles but mythbusters already busted this one, they tried seeing the different methods around the internet of alternative means of fuel for vehicles...and the power from the car battery doesnt have enough power to split the atoms or something like that and make the hydrogen needed to run the car. But they did get a cylinder of pure hydrogen and the car ran on that...almost blew jamie up in the process though :D haha
