Thinking of buying an x2

Hi all,
Im new to the whole x2 scene, but not new to jetskiing (brothers have a blaster 1 and an HX).
I have always wanted to own an x2 and do a surf based build. I have been looking for a ski for a while now but there are not many around in the UK. I found this one and was wondering what year it is and what type of steering it is. i.e. direct or cage as i understand the cage is the better style. Also does this have some sort of aftermarket steering seeing as it looked a little stronger than the standerd steering.

Thanks in advance :)
Adam

Im not sure but i have a 91 and it has the same graphics. If your able to see it in person again the vin number has the year in it. I think its the last 2 numbers? not sure when the switch was between direct steer and cage style. but My 89 has direct and 91 has the cage style. if you look under the tower, bottom of the steer column, you'll be able to tell. direct steer is one cable going straight back into the hull. if it has a cage youll be able to tell. that actually looks like it has umi already.

looks like a good ski and grpahics are a 91, how much do they go for in england, look in the pump area, so you can see the prop , it might be a aftermarket also

That thing is pretty clean, stock engine a mikuni BN carb (which means an sbn is a direct swap) converted to premix already and already has a UMI steering stem. And I agree, good chance it has an aftermarket impeller too. That would be a very nice starting point if you can get it for a decent price.

Thanks for all of your input. It's very helpful.
The ski is for sale for £500 which seems to be the going price for any x2 overhere regardless of condition, although the real mint ones are a tad more expensive but very hard to find!

well i picked it up at the weekend! :)
turns out it has and after market scoop grate, ride plate, ss impeller, steering stem and carb.
i want to chop off the back but i cant get the SEM sealer in the uk. what other alternatives are avaliable?
What can i use to get the sicky rubbish of after the sticker are torn off?

WD-40 works good to get the sticker residue off.
It seems on some stickers it works great, and some it doesn't work to well.
But it doesn't hurt the paint and is worth a try.
