I claim to know nothing about jumping wakes.... to be honest I hate the idea, but that is another story all together... I am very concerned w/ people just jumping like you pictured in the diagram... So if I jump a wake there will be someone right behind me comming??? Nothing in the world scares me more than than being landed on from behind... I have had way too many close calls and this setup seems to be like a sigle file line... No, I don't know a better way to do it, but I would like to say that if you are following me on a wake, please don't be right behind me... I might do anything... who knows... I just don't want to be landed on...

I'm not trying to be a surf snob, this wake stuff really scares the hell out of me.... Honestly:bigeyes:

hey Nick, you have to remember the forward motion of the boat........ if I am in front of you, and I turn in, you are going to continue going in the same direction as the boat, so as to hit the same part of the wave that I did, except you will be 40 yards farther up (say North if that is the direction the boat is traveling.........) So, you are really not right behind me, unless you turned with me.........

You ever seen how Paratroopers jump out of the side or back cargo down of a C130......... they are staggered.......... same priciple.

Slutty....

gotta remember bro- boats are moving, so as one guy falls in to the wake to jump he wants the 'sweet spot'; if i go in 15 seconds after him, I want the 'sweet spot' of the wave too- it's now 50 feet further forward from the boat moving. So I miss killing you by at least 50 feet:biggrin: :Banane01:

I'm not worried about our group with standups.
Just watch out for couch riders who want to join in on a cruiser.
Any close call I've ever had has been with a sit down. They have no idea how its done.
I dont know what the fines are Pete. Its been a few years since I've got caught.

This kinda goes without saying, but I'd like to add when you are in formation, remember to keep somewhat staggered in case someone (most likely me) were to fall off chasing the BFC you dont run him/her over...... the water does get choppy

:werd: And remember, if you see me wipe out while riding in a straight line it's because:

1) The water gets VERY choppy, from all directions, and
2) SJ hulls aren't great for going in a straight line.

It is absolutely NOT becasue I am a lame-a$$ rider, OK? Thank you. :cool2:

Oh, and Nick: you're gonna be a convert. Jumping wakes is awesome - you'll love it.

im glad some one posted this. last year was my first ride.i was scared as hell i was going to get hit when i first got there.it took a second watching a few boats being molested by jetskis:biggrin: to figure it out.

Great thread.
I've only got one thing to add

DON'T RIDE UP THE MIDDLE
This is the landing zone.

Wait your turn, make your jump and then come back outside of the wake to get inline for another jump.

Do not land and then follow the cruiser by riding in the middle of the wake.

That being said keep an eye out for other riders especially people that are not with our group. People often ride right behind the cruise because it is smoother water.

Be safe.

Back in the cove along the campisites was crazy, too many peeps chasing a small boat like it was the only boat on the water...? I didn't get it, but whatever. Out in the big water, I thought it was fairly organized, I didnt see any big dangers, accept the dude in the jet boat. He was a D**K

unfortunately with alot of newbies (not meaning anything bad by this) it gets out of control, with some of the regulars (Botizzle knows what I am talking about) there is not an issue................. I watched the cluster when that single boat came in the cove, everybody was swarming it............

i feel like the boat we ran through the cove got a little out of hand (nick knows what i am sayin:bigeyes: ) so after a few close calls i told via to bring it in because i didn't want to film someone getting smooshed...

since i didn't see any of the bigger cruiser action out of the cove first hand i can't say if it was the fact that we were filming and people saw me hanging off the back with the cam or if all wakes got that chaotic all weekend, but it was out of control for sure...

Yeah - it was kind of nutty out there on Saturday - I pretty much stayed away. When you're a bit more experienced the other thing you learn (aside from safe jumping) is when there are just too many other people around. I went out to jump several times and turned straight back - especially when I saw about 6 couches in the mix - no way I'm getting involved in that.

Sunday was awesome - Harrison Chris and I had a long run on a perfect wake (except a few interludes when other boats made it dangerous). Best run of the weekend for me.

Me, Thomasm Casey, and Jason caught 2 cruisers allt he way out tot he big lake at a good slow speed then another back to the camp and we were the only people there....was great!

Two worst jumpinps were
1. about 7 of us hitting this big cruiser when someone in one of those SeaDoo jetboats is breaking line and jumping wake and crossing over to the other side to U turn and do it again. I remember catching the guys spray uponcoming up from a stab

2. Chasing a small boat but with good wake a couch comes into the the mix and just gets right behind the boat and just sat there....after like 5 of us were done making move gestures he finally left.

There's a lot of people who were there who do not read this specific thread. I let my wife got out on the Blaster and never told her about this year's "etiquette" and she got scolded :) It did look like madness to me as well and I stayed away from jumping in the cove.
