What pump for xscream dvx

I have a few TJ Products in my Helium and I am very happy with the quality and performance.
I switched from 49 Full Specs to billet TJ 52 carbs and noticed a huge gain in performance. We had to repitch my prop, because it was spinning with my new carbs. 2 month later I bought a TJ 158 pump. I could not believe how light it was, compared to my xscream pump. The ring has a different design and holds the pump much tighter. I would run the pump on any other hull on the market with a standard pump shoe installed without any doubt. Installation was easy.
A few weeks ago I got my TJ pump cone. You can chance the size of the cone with shims. Very easy to do at the lake. Takes about 2 minutes.
Prices are very attractive and Tim is easy to reach via Facebook messenger.

So with the 158 pump are you having or order a custom 158 prop?
 
But did he still keep it that same vane geometry? The skat pump started life as a race pump that then got used in freestyle. A Torrent pump is the only pump that from the start was designed for freestyle.

We are continious working on improvements.
At the moment i believe there is room for better and more budget friendly products we started 1,5 year ago an spending 100% of all earnings back in R&D one side to keep improving and the second step to optimize production and we are not done yet.

Here a little sneak peak of a stator we gonna have made to test different things.

As for the prop is it just a welded on 155?

I would like to know more about this freestyle vs race pump theory? To me it sounds like advertising 101 lol

It’s not a theory but the truth. The Skat pump started in race boats then moved over to being used in freestyle with no change done to the vane.

An applications where sustained RPMs take place requires a different geometry then an application where fast loading from 0-100 is taking place.

So please back this up with some sceince or theory. The pump function is all about hydro dynamics and ending up in pump effeciancy.
I have no beef with the Torrent pumps, i think its super nice pumps and more options are on the market making the market - a bit more competible.
BUT to me it seems that Torrent has alot of nice slangs for advertising, but when asking into it, its hard to get an answer. Like their 30 something "quality check points" they cant mention them due to the competition from other manufactors. That seems like BS to me.

I guess here’s the thing. I am not going to pretend to be an expert or know exactly what I am talking about. But I did go to school for mechanical engineering for two years and have been tinkering with stuff for awhile now.

From my underuseding stator vanes have to meet the flow coming with a different swirl angle and redirect it into fully axial direction. This is also dependent on the prop speed and the given speed the motor can turn it. This creates different pressure levels at the prop. Race props are primarily tall pitched impellers. The redirect angle is going to be different then let’s say a less steep pitched freestyle prop.

Following up on the Torrent “quality check points” I have spent a lot of time in the shop with Brian. I have seen what goes into these pumps and have had the pleasure of owning 4 Torrent pumps so far. Two of which were R&D lightweight pumps that are 3 lbs. I can tell you these checks are not just some marketing fluff. To also answer to the “not wanting to go into further detail point” I have this this to say, if you have worked for many years to develop a product you are not just going to give out your secrets on everything you do.

Especially in a sport as small as this were the next guy who has access to a CNC is ready to copy whatever he can get his hands on.

It should also say something to prospective buys that the pros who run a Torrent pump have paid for them and were not just given them as a “sponsorship deal”. To me that says a lot that they are willing to pay for something great vs be given something okay.

Above all no matter who you buy from TJ, Torrent, or Skat. The support has to be there. I choose to buy Torrent because I know the pump will be dialed in to do exactly what I am looking for.

Sure they paid money for them but they were heavily discounted. Those giant “torrent” stickers on the hulls are as close to a sponsorship as this sport allows. You advertise, I’ll give you a pump at cost + %10. That’s a sponsorship deal...

What I mean is just handing them a pump for free.

Prop pitch is based on what the motor can turn, You cannot just go from a ski running a 13.5/18 and say "I am going to throw in a 16/23 and go race"........ Your motor may not even be able to get you out of the hole much less spin up to Peak RPM. There is a specific range that any given motor and push a prop +/- a few degrees and still be able to run. Call it prop 1 = low. Prop 2 mid, Prop 3 high....... Depending on the track you may go with Prop 3 if it is wide open. If it is small and tight you might run Prop 1, If it falls in between then Prop 2... Or you may go with Prop1 on a in between track so you can come out of the hole stronger and pull harder out of the corners..... Or, If the track was a Middle type track but does not have tight turns you may prop up to carry more speed thru the corners. If I am not mistaken Jeff Jacobs won WF in 99, His ski was absolutely stupid fast. The next year he shows up and guess what, they set his ski up for more bottom to mid power on basically the same track, but he had found a way to capitalize on the other racers by pulling harder in the turns and getting up to speed faster......... How? Motor and Pump Setup. Keep in mind these were now Superstock rules, so stock cylinders.......... So, most of the tuning would be with Pipe and Pump/Prop......................
Is there a difference in pumps for Freestyle vs Racing? Well, Race boats (SJ's) mostly ran 140mm Mag pumps. Yes, 4mm smaller than stock......... There were some 144's out there........ But nothing bigger........ Why? Pump Tune. Bigger the pump, you can process more water with larger engines........ Guess what size motors they were running in the early 2000's. 785cc was the limit.
