Put my motor together tonight. Having issues with starter / solenoid. Doesn't always want to crank. Sometimes just clicks. Tried two different starters cleaned grounds. When it cranks it cranks hard and gets a perfect 150 psi on cylinder. But when I try the other cylinder I can only get it to half ass crank and get about 80-90 psi. Makes no sense to me. Does this with both starters . Turns perfect by hand it's not binding. It cranks so hard on the one cylinder it wants to jump off the bench. The other gets a weak ass crank. I'm stumped .

poor little square feel into the hands of a chopper, cropper, stripper, chipper. i would have washed that hydroturf and awesome old graphics, painted the handpole pad and dropped a stock 701 in it and ridden it as is. did you pick it up in a white van with no windows, you molester of squares?

that was a nice find. those ambiguous ads always get my heart racing haha :)

Have you ran the motor at all to seat the rings?

I did wash that turf with about 3000 psi it wasn't having it. She was just too far gone. I wouldn't say I'm a chopper, I'm a restorer;)

Starter soilend was going bad replaced it. Compression is now 120 and 150. Should I try and figure out what's going on with it or run it and let them seat

You need to break that motor in before you start judging anything based off of compression. I'm sure it's fine.

even if its still tcw-3?

I'm not a reputable engine builder, just some guy on the X... You can do whatever but if you do a quick search on google or any thread on here, most will advise to run non-synthetic on break in. Supposedly seats the rings better. Do a little research I would say.

Its a long debated thing, but you won't go wrong running standerd dino oil for the break in. Wait a few tank fulls then go synthetic. Easy peasy.

Need to pick your guys' brains for a second. The 650 carb that I pulled from this ski seems to be overall in a lot better condition that the one that came on my 701. The 650 choke plate also has the cable that is lock in place by a screw, it doesn't have the fitting on the end that slides in sideways and holds itself in like the throttle cable does. My 701 carb needs the choke cable with that fitting that slides in sideways. So instead of swapping choke cables or swapping carb parts I think im going to rebuild the 650 carb and use that one. The only difference between the two is the jet sizes correct? So I would need to pull the larger jets out of the 701 carb and put them into the 650?? And if all of that is correct, what screw settings would you recommend for a starting baseline on my bone stock 701?

The carb on the 701 is the same Mikuni 44 that came stock on 650s. Just swap the Jetting. A safe starting point would be 1- 1 1/4 on the low and 1 1/2 on the high.

They should both be 44 carbs so the swamp should work. Also remove the choke all together and install a primer.
