Super Jet Etching paint for cases cylinders?

My cases, cylinders, and bed plates have been media blasted and are now clean cast aluminum. I have read that brake caliper paint is 'etching paint'.
Does anyone know anything about 'etching paint' and if it would work better on a motor than traditional spray paint?

I media blasted my case and cylinders a couple years ago and just sprayed them with some high temp paint from the auto store and they have held up great. I didn't use any etching primer or any other product to "promote" a bond. They still have a nice gloss to them and none of the paint has flaked off.

I'd use a self-etching primer or one of the engine paints that says it will bond to aluminum.

You need to paint with self etching primer, that will form a better bond with the bare aluminum, scuff the parts you can get to on the primer with a scotchbrite pad, then use whatever paint you want on top of that.

Dupli-color DAP 1690 Self etching primer, I've used it and it seems to "bite" very well into aluminum. Should work great since it sounds like you did a good job of prep with the media blasting. Gil what was the media used to blast the cases? Make sure you wash them with soapy water or a solvent if they were blasted with walnut shells as they leave a fine powder behind after blasting.

If your cases are blasted with a high grit media, you can paint them with straight atuo body paint that has a separate hardener without the primer. It will hold up great, better than powder.

This thing hits salt water about two times a year, I don't think he will have too many corrosion issues lol

If something is media blasted, isn't it already "etched" and would have enough tooth to hold paint? I've heard of using it on smoothe bare new metals, but is it needed on something that's been blasted?

I ended up using self etching epoxy primer witch seems to have bonded VERY well. After the primer cured I started dusting with VHT header chrome paint. I am VERY happy with the results thus far. If the stuff does not fall off the engine this year I will call it a great success that cost me a total of 15.00.

The vht paint is the same stuff I've used. It is very durable and the vht clear coat stands up to fuel very well IMO. Never used with with the primer. Might have to try it out! Let's see some pics!

If you blow em up and look closely, far from perfect but SOOOOOOO much better than it was!!! (and CHEAP). Now I have to figure out what I am going to do about my PURPLE RAD flywheel/timing cover, and what color to do the headpipe and ex manifold in-chrome or black (for a lil contrast). My crank should be here Tuesday.

Never seen the chrome in header paint. Where did you get it ? Did you clear it after? (looks shiny)

No clear coat. The pics you see are after spray bombing it and thats it. Got the paint and primer from advanced auto parts. Primer was 6.00 and paint was 8.00.
It was sooooooo easy to lay the paint down. I dusted the parts 1st, let that paint 'tack up', then dusted again and again and again to prevent runs. The paint will not do anything but run on bare metal but sticks great to the primer.
