There's been a lot of discussion about how much freestyle has changed, and it has definitely evolved, without a doubt. I've been curious as to what style of freestyle you guys are more interested in, though.

Just doing this for fun, not trying to stir any pots or try to prove any kind of a point, this is just a legitamate question as to which form of freestyle you guys find more entertaining.

Eric Malone - Circa 1997
*Hood Tricks, mild aerial tricks

Eric Malone - 2006 World Finals

*Begining of Aerial tricks, mild combos

Sakaida Kazuaki - 2011 World Finals
*Massive Aerial combos & end of hood tricks.

I personaly dig the old schools freestyle and hood tricks, if performed in havasu the crowd really gets thrilled by old schools stuff , best would be a good combination of both worlds reflecting skillz in each department. I also think it is time for the aerial show to step up a notch, i want to see double backflip of own wake, front flip and some other stuff....seriously !! :0)

Jeremy Parr did a mix of flips and hood tricks in his routine. I thought it was awesome, but apparently the judges didn't think so. Parr definitely knows how to throw down a show, and I've never seen anyone go that big on a ball buster.

After watching that video of his routine for the first time, my initial impression
seemed like a lot of time trying to get locked into foot holds throughout the ride
a few ariels he didn't land well. great height and execution but sloppy on the landing.
some old school stuff that weren't clean. riding the hood into a sub and not having a clean dismount or ride it out, the spin in the tray where he fell.

I love the old school stuff and don't like that current freestyle is a back flip war, but i thought his routine could have been cleaner.

the $0.02 of a sub-rookie just looking for a show.

I watched Jeremy's run live online (wish I was there) and went nuts! It was SO cool to see him mix it up.

I'm with Orangefinger on the routines. It'd be good to see a routine get mixed up a bit more and showcase a larger variety of tricks and skills. Bring it all together basically, instead of air after air after air.

I dig the airs and combos a lot, but LOVE seeing some tricks that don't require a huge motor, carbon hull and basically rely on creativity and madd skills. There's nothing wrong with big motors and carbon hulls though, but I think the earlier riders took it pretty damm far for what they had to work with and were true innovators. Huge props to them for helping get us where we are today in overall progression.

So much has gone down the last two years as far as motors and hulls go. Very exciting to see where todays riders are going to take it.

Good post Lil D!

gotta have a mix of old and new...the new stuff is cool, power is great, aerials are awesome but we still look like fags compared to pro-mx

the old is where the roots are at. dont ever forget it

JP throws it down with a mix of both...so does stoyer......I think a sub to fountain would make the crowd at havasu go NUTS!

Keep in mind, they have a lot of stuff that we don't - ramps that are always the same, suspension set ups, brakes (for front flips etc.) and not to mention a better power-to-weight ratio. I'd say we're doing awesome for the equipment that we have, but there definitely is room to grow.

you are right, controlled conditions are a whole different ballgame.....

but I think you are missing the point

forget that their tricks are bigger, more dangerous and scarier.............what makes MX so cool is how FLUID all the movements are

very rarely do you get to see that in a freestyle jetski routine.......

Agreed. And I think it's that way in most sports or activities, you try to look good and be smooth. Not jump super high, then ride around in a circle for the next few seconds before you find a wave you like.
