i am in the process of re building/modding my stock RN hood. the plan is to lower the hood about 3 inches and reinforce some problem areas. i dont have a ton of experience with fiberglass but then again who cares!
step one remove stock hood liner. i started to saw it out then realized that i could pop it out instead. i used a knife to break the seal all the way around.

step three is to block off the front holes and reinforce the sides.
step four is to make a new hood liner. this is where the duct tape is handy. i made a liner out of tape then laid up three sheets of 12 oz on a piece of glass. once it got it wetted out and squeegied out the etra i laid it on top of the tape and form fitted it. after it cured i trimmed the excess.

Looks like its coming along nicely. I have a spare hood laying around I think I will be doing the same thing to over winter here was my thoughts:
Remove the liner and fill the uncut hood with 2 part foam up to where the liner should be that way when I cut off the top section I have support for the new glass. Once that is done use the foam as a flat base for the new liner, lay it up, bond it to the hood. Then remove the foam with a liquid, gasoline maybe? The last part I am not so sure how well it will work but it would definitly make the building process easier.

i'm going to fill the gap on top tonight and then get ready to put the liner in. more to come.

Looks awesome, my only concern is will there be enough air flow? Hard to tell how much open area there is. Seams like the hardest part will be making the hood seal area perfect at bottom of the liner?????????????

The seal portion is part of the hood, not the liner.
Any excess liner should be trimmed to that.

the line is maybe .5 inches shallower than the stock liner. i am going to open up the rear holes a bit and use 2 inch breather tubes. the pole has two breather tubes as well so air flow should not be a problem. (also, its a 701 with dual stock 38's so no worries IMO).

Although I havn't looked at your pics in depth, don't worry too much about air flow. You can run several small breathers near the E box if you have to. Like on a BUN hood. Like you said the XMetal bracket will help.

I lowered mny squarenose hood last year. Learned a lot, and I'm going to take that into the RN hood this year.

I plan to make it a lot lighter than stock.

It was a squarenose hood, and not really, let me see if I can dig out anything that will give you an idea of what I did.

No pics of my RN hood yet. I havn't started, I wanted to measure using an Xmetal pole/brkt combo, as thats the pole I'm running. But I havn't bought it yet so I don't want to start on the hood yet. Just want the pole to sit flush with the hood when its done. What is the height of your pole?

Hey, this is a family show. :27:
ha ha.
i have filled the gap on top with 2 layers of 6 oz and 1 layer of 18 oz. the bottom has 2 layers of 18 ox and 3 layers of 6 oz and is rock hard. i also cleaned up and filled a few misc holes and reinforced a few cracks. next step is to 5200 in the liner and cut the holes. then its sanding and painting.

For the liner you can get PVC sheets from McMaster Carr and it forms real well with a heat gun and attaches nicely with epoxy resin. I used this in areas I cut open on my liner when I was building holds. Try number 8747K157

so it bends at about 180 degrees? What works good for cutting it? It is just like white pvc pipe but laid out in sheet form?
