So I finally finished my first ever build a few weeks ago and haven’t had a chance to post the details until now. I must say this was both fun and frustrating, but well worth it in the end, as it looks, sounds, and feels amazing on the water.

I want to especially thank following people who help make this build happen:

  • Chad – Thanks for all your help with the scupper, footholds, and hull reinforcing.

  • Jeff's Powder Coating – I can’t say enough about Jeff and his work. GREAT WORK AT A GREAT PRICE!!! Thanks Jeff - http://www.jpcoatings.com/

  • Corey – Without Corey’s involvement on this project I’m sure I would have mounted my motor backwards and not finished this build until sometime in 2010. He put a lot of time and effort in to helping me complete this build and I know for a fact that there is no way that this would have come out as nice as it did had he not been involved. So a special thanks to my boy Corey!!!

VIDEO: The moment of Truth - First Start after Completed Build

UPDATE:

I have managed to sink my ski the last two times I have been out riding because my hood latch kept popping off cause my hood to shift and water would rush into the engine bay.

The first time it sunk I thought it was just a fluke and I figured I must have forgot to lock the latch, which cost me a busted a reed petal that I had to replace it. The second time this happened was the finally straw. I got rid of my hood latch and made my own a stainless steel ratchet strap (A.K.A. Brap Strap) to hold down the hood and it's been rock solid ever since. I will never go back to a latch system ever again.

I also decided to install a fuel shut off since I am not running a reserve.

be careful with the battery hard mounted like that...the inserts will rip out of the hull, the oem box uses bungees for a reason

I imagine this is the case for surf riders as I see exact how this could happen out on the ocean, but I'm in Michigan and primarily ride flat water.

If you start doing any rolls you will put some of the same forces on the battery as a surf rider. You might want to look at putting some kind of foam below and above where it will let the battery float some.

I have been practicing my roll and this is my 2nd season with that battery tray without any issues thus far. I peroidically check the inserts and threads and they haven't moved or been damaged in anyway.

Keep in mind that the battery I am using is significantly smaller and lighter than most other dry cell batteries, which may be why my inserts have been holding up so well with this battery tray design.

However, BK I will defintely keep an eye on it and as the first sign of any damage I will be sure to make float the battery a bit.
