YES! Takes a bit of work to get right...much better when you do!
Grate work, prop size and setback, and nozzle boring combination are some of the key ingredients to make the most out of them!

or if your cheap, a TBM racing superpump cone is a good alternative. it stuffs the pump alot more than stock, without the cost of a mag pump. it also comes with 3 different cones.

Judging from this thread, I would go w/ 144 mag (good luck finding one used)

Wish I could afford a new one.

I don't believe very many people have the power(those in the previous thread included) to require a 144 mag. The only guys that are reaching the threshold of requiring a bigger pump are CGRacing, Malone, and some of the 800 based motor guys. The 140 can efficiently handle all the power that almost any motor can provide. It was said that the 140 is a racing pump. Well, so is the 144. For that matter, all mags were developed as racing pumps. It's also easier to get a 140 setup correctly because of years of feedback from reliable testing. Very few reliable sources are running 144's and so dialing in the correct prop will be trickier. Even with 140's most people have been running 16/21,22,23 props all along. It's only been in the last year or so that you see many people running the 14 and 13 based 140 props. Just my opinon, but I'm not running out and getting a 144 anytime soon.

I plan on using a Mag Pump in a build I am having done...

Really? I just got a super deal on a Mag pump from Idok that I'm going to use for my build. I think it was the one that came out of his red roundnose with the goofy plumbing/yamaha sticker.

kidding. Mag's are too rich for my blood.

I have tried a 140mm mag, on a 927cc motor, based on the 66e, and it cannot handle the power. It does OK on the mid and top end, but the bottom end cavitates really bad. The 144mm mag works good for that application, so does the 148mm. But, on the REV12, you have to start with a 148mm mag. A 144mm will not handle the power, I have tried it. So in conclusion I would say the 140mm is good for a max of 150hp, the 144mm is good to about 180, and anything more than that use the 148mm. Just my experience.

A ton of them!!!!! The 140mm anything from 14/19 to 17/25. The 144mm 13/19 to 16/23. And the 148mm 13/19 to 17/25. I have also used the 155mm and tried from 7/12 to 14/19. I have some good setups for each one depending on motor set up. But remember, like Chucky said, it also depends on grate, and nozzle size. The nozzle size can really tighten or loosen a pump/prop combo up, so that is a very important part of setting up a pump.

Sounds like you did plenty of experimenting. How'd that 155 pump do?

Still Fat....
all i can say is i am at the limit with the stock pump with my current lamey setup
if i up the compression any more, or gain more torque out of the motor, it will slip.
i've toyed with the idea of the TBM cone, but for now will run what i have

i've tried various pitches from 13/15,16,17 and various cut backs too
i have a blue printed pump, protec nozzle and wet wolf cone

i'd probably say if you are just at a starting point, and you know you are going to go towards a bigger/powerful motor, then it's probably a worth while investment before spending all the $$ on a stock pump.

however if you live in the rocky waters of the north east like i do, might want to reconsider the mag, as sucking a rock can make for an unhappy day and big $$$
