Other What kind of quad should I get...?

I've been thinking of purchasing some sort of 4x4 toy to haul the skis up from the beach. I've been using a lawn tractor and it's being pushed to its limits. If money wasn't an issue I'd love to get a rhino or an RZR.
All I need is for something to be able to tow 2 standups at a time, up a small ish hill.
What would be the " Superjet" of the 4 wheelers?

Have the ole lady push the beach cart and buy yourself a Suzuki LTR-450. It won't pull a ski worth a crap, but they're fun!

something with a manual shift transmission. honda trx300 is the most reliable fourwheeler EEEVVVVEEEERRRRR. you want something 4x4, not to put it in 4x4, but for the weight in the front so you dont do wheelies up the hill. as far as polaris, stay away. i HATE polaris. they have come a LONG way in the past 5-7 years, but still think theyre junk. Honda or Yamaha fourwheeler alll day. i was a tech at a local dealer here, so if you have any questions about one you can PM me and ask any questions. I'll answer if i can.
Honda 250 or 300 (manual shift) even the new 420 Fuel injected was a durable beater quad
Yamaha wolverines or timberwolfs were great
kawasaki bayou's were awesome, any size.

I towed a three place trailer with a couch and 2 standups with my Yamaha 660 Grizzly. 2 miles each way to the boat ramp and it never had any issues with a steep or slippery ramp. The tongue weight was the only issue with my setup as the ATV had more than enough power and traction to pull it.

i had an 08 grizzly 660, also good quads, but i ate up belts and one way bearings in the clutch. i put 4 belts and 2 one way bearings in it. but, i had bigger tires and a big bore, and a pipe... blah blah blah. most of the ones i see on craigslist are ragged and beaten.

X2 on the Honda trx300 ..... We had one for years used it on our duck leases in Arkansas . It ate up Arkansas mud and every for wheeler that tried to follow. It was bet to hell some many laughed at it until it was pulling out their jacked up Expensive whatever .

I've got an 09 Can am Renegade 800r X and it is an awesome machine, 4wd, hi/low and this thing does over 120kms/hr. I usually hop up everything I own but this thing is bone stock, pulls my 2 sleds on the trailer and pulls the trailer with the jet ski and couch up the hills in my backyard with no problem.
Cheers Ray

I only ever changed one belt in my 660 grizzly but went thru several axles with the 26" mud tires. I finally bought a complete set of Gorilla Axles to solve the problem.

The 700 Grizzlies were nice upgrades with power steering and big bore kits. The lift kits and dual kits were a waste of money but thankfully the kits were all sponsored at that point.

i use a 1983 yamaha Tri-moto 200cc. does the job, pulls a twin trailer with two SXR's up a soft beach no problem. Now i got mine for free, but you can find them for a couple hundred bucks. these and the hondas will go through anything. i hydrolocked my honda atc many many times, always just pulled the plug in the field and fired it back up and rode on. when i go to the lake i just drive my atc and trailer head first into the water. hop off the atc and it floats. then when im ready to go i hop on it and drive it and the trailer with ski out.

i broke both rear gorilla axles in mine, put some cheap $100 axles in there and never had a problem. I know the guy I sold it to, still going strong. Luck of the draw I suppose.

Those Can Ams are bad ass and we saw more than half of the ones sold in our area get resold within the first year. Couple guys scared themselves so bad they wouldn't ride again, one guy shattered his leg and another died on his. Craigslist had no less than 10 of them for sale at any given time. I think it took a bit for guys to catch on about what kind of beast they are. Definately not a machine for a timid or average rider.

Big and powerful ATV's are nice but I still say the smaller machines are more than adequate. As mentioned above, the Yamaha Kodiaks and similar 400 to 450cc machines were great. More than enough pulling power, light enough to almost float still and much cheaper to own and maintain. They also don't have the power to tear themselves up either. I'm not entirely sold on the auto transmissions or belt drives but I never had major issues with any of mine to turn me off of them either.

I got my Grizzly stuck in some wet sand beside a river and after 7 hours of digging and tugging, finally wrenched it free with a pickup. In doing so, I bent the frame slightly and damaged every single axle joint in the machine. I chased the problem with half shafts for a year and almost went broke doing it as the bad parts kept trashing the new parts. I had a track set given to me to demo for a season so I ordered the gorilla axles and never looked back.

Your're welcome to come up here and freeze your ass off for a few birds a day too if you desire!
