Advice for all you fresh water riders.

Make sure your electrically system is in tiptop shape.
By this I mean no half azz wiring jobs with sloppy connections.
Salt water conducts way better than fresh water and will short out your electrically system in a heart beat.
Nobody wants to drive this far just to sit on the beach.

Don't laugh it happens to several peeps at ever one of these ocean rides.

Happy riding.
Steve

More advice
Keep the good ideas coming and I'll just add them to this post.

1: If you've got spare electrical parts especially coils and start/stop switches I suggest you bring them as well as several sets of spark plugs.

2: Make sure you ski has TOW LOOPS front and rear

3: some sort of Tow rope with quick connects that you have easy access to would be good.

4: from Yamaslut
Always Assume The Guy In Front Of You On A Wave Is Doing A Re-entry Type Move.... Do Not Ever Follow Another Rider Over A Wave Or Up To A Wave.... If A Person Is Surfing A Wave, Get Out Of The Way... They Are On The Wave And The Wave Is Theirs Till They Exit.

No Riding Paralell To The Beach At High Speeds. You Will Be Removed From The Water Asap

No Riding Paralell To The Beach Behind A Wave... If You Can't See What's Over The Front Of A Wave Head Out To Sea And Around Till You Can. Do Not Go Blindly Up The Back Of A Breaking Wave... I Can Not Strees This Enough.

Stay Away From Other Riders... Do Not Double Up An A Wave W/ Someone Unless You Are Flipping Side By Side Or Rolling...

Remember That There Are Plenty Of Waves... Don't Risk A Move If You Might Be Close To Someone... Wait It Out

6: rule #1 - never let go. If the surf is big never bail unless you absolutely have too. Often you can't swim fast enough to reach you ski again and you will need to be rescued.

7: If a riders is down ride by and check up on him. He could be hurt or broken down.
If you are in the water thumbs-up:biggthumpup: is generally used to signal that you are OK

good advice!

if ya have extra ignition coils, bring em!

its also not a bad idea to sploot some dielectric grease on youre start/stop harness connectors.

a light coat of dubyaDforty on the engine and electrics is also good.

all SJ's have a bad start/stop switch. Worst case you can disconnect the stop switch but lower your idle if you do. Dont get cought by beach patrol.

When i bought my boat it had never seen salt water. I had to re-seal the electrical box and replace some wire conectors.

Mine did the same thing in Jersey.

Got a fresh JSS coil now. Oh yeah, bring extra plugs too. The salt water seems to eat them up, also. In fresh, I can ride about 20 times on a set, in salt, I had to change them every day.

Must be nice to ride in fresh water, might give it a try some day.

Get a can of Boeshield T-9 and spray the entire underhood area real well(hit everything in there). I spray the pump too as it makes it nice and shiny.

I do this when ever I know I will be riding several days in a row, that way if I don't flush with fresh water nothing rusts. Works for me.

That's weird .I've had the same set in my ski for over a year and probably change them once a year and only ride saltwater .

Wrap your coil wires all the way from your plug boots to your e-box in that rubber waterproof tape .

I always zip tie my plug wires on just to make sure nothing pops off (since I jump so high...LOL!) But seriously, a loose plug wire at the wrong time can really screw your day up.

Also, I'd just automatically place a short tow loop on the front AND back of your ski - never know when you'll need a tow or need to tow someone...

And along with that - don't forget a short piece of rope - long enough to go around your waist twice with loops and quick connects - just connect it and wear as a belt so you can get it on and off your ski quick on case of emergency tows.

All the other stuff above is good info too....

that is a mandatory daytona rule.......Rumor is without tow loops front and back you wont even be allowed on the water

trying to make a rescue in the surf without loops might just give your boat the time it needs to sink (coughlastweekendcough)

not to mention if the surf is rough its a great chance to break/lose a finger trying to loop something through the stern eye

there will also be a sniper posted full time on the roof of the makai to wax any fool that tries to ride without them...:purr:

seriously folks, Tow loops/ropes are NO JOKE!
