Got the ski mocked up with OEM hood and nosepiece just to get a vision of the size and shapes of the hull . This thing is going to be a fun ski! Both surf and flatwater. Going to paint the bottom deck white and top deck will likely be white or a lighter blue, haven't decided yet.
Most blending and reinforcing is done, just needs minor finishing.
Cut the inserts out of the old nose then ground the bottom real thin and contoured to the new nose shape. Will glue down with thickened epoxy and lay more 17oz glass over it to tie it into the hull
Update:
Have the rear of the hull closed in and glassed from inside and the nose all layed up.
Filled gaps with thickened epoxy then ground the hull down on the outside to reinforce and blend to existing hull
Wasn't going to make a build thread but I was scrolling through other build threads and @BruceSki commented that there aren't many true builds anymore, just AM hull assemblies. This ski will be for sale also. Would love to keep it but I'm just consolidating parts and hulls to free up some...
Better to be fearless than a perfectionist that doesn't even attempted this build. Looks good, you'll definitely learn a lot during the build and appreciate riding it more when you're done
There will always be a market for SJs. Even though a lot of people want an AM hull, not everyone feels that way. Like JM said, not many new SJs are being produced so the used market will only get stronger as time goes by. That's looks like a nice clean ski. Unmolested isn't always easy to...
I have a single place trailer that I could sell to anyone buying a ski in Daytona needing transportation back home.
I'm also building a rockered -4" RN with mods that I can sell as well
You guys definitely pay out the azz to have that surf! I moved to Florida 3 years ago from New Hampshire. Our surf leaves a lot to be desired but when weighing out the pros and cons I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Spot was fun because of all the different breaks. Hard to compare size... Maybe slightly smaller but not a make or break difference. Definitely not as stacked up though, they were rolling in slow and clean. Not much of a backflip day, I was the only one risking it so I'd say Daytona may have...
Wish I knew earlier. I couldn't find ANY locals to ride the zone so now I'm commited to the spot. May do a morning sesh at the spot then hit the zone in the afternoon? How late do you guys plan on staying?
Everything is a copy of everything in this industry. Keeps the fanboys busy beating dead horses and typing on here. If RRP didn't have such a large profit margin there would be no motivation for replicas and product competition. Competition breeds affordability and more options which is good...
