We usually assign such tasks to whomever failed to make it to the meeting on time or more commonly, whomever failed to make the meeting at all.
You do not want to miss an Action Item review meeting in our group, lol. :)

Since ScottS isn't here, I volunteer him to school you on the subject, He's done a couple good write-ups on it before and has been Frankensteining them back together for a decade or two.

There is a thread on here with pics and steps to rebuild. But in a nutshell you pull the clip off the top and it comes apart. Then you replace the 12$ weight holder that lets go in the bottom (you will see missing ears on them) put her back together. I also recommend using a new snap ring.

Don’t forget about the part when you bury a pick an inch into your thumb while trying to get the hog ring off! Ask me how I know,,, every time...
I reuse the rings, one it’s reassembled the ring can’t come off as it’s shrouded by the collar. They are very easy to do, I did however make an install mandrel that basically acts like a “ramp” to get the rings back in place as without it your sure to get at least one puncture wound wrestling the clip back on.

Yes, if you were late to a meeting you were tasked out to do whatever no one present didn’t wanted to do. That was definitely a motivation to not be late.

Try using snap ring pliers to push the ring apart, no blood in this scenario!!

Spent some time talking to @ScottS yesterday and also to @TOBY So l’m ready to start the procedure. l’ll also have alcohol, bandages, and super glue just in case @iQRTurbo And maybe some moonshine to kill the pain ;)

That’s exactly how I get it raised up enough to get the pick started, but once you try it you’ll see what I mean,,, just about the time you think you have it, wham, blood. I started using a small flat blade screw driver that I have a baby notch ground in the tip that I normally use for installing wrist pin cir-clips, it stays hooked on a bit better. Still stabs in the thumb pretty deep though, lol.

Snap ring pliers, FTW.

So what does one do with the one way gear assembly once the rest of the bendix is apart? That looks like it’s pressed together. Do you take that apart any further? If no, how do you lube it?

The one way gear is either good or bad. It cant get fixed and It's supposed to have some drag to it. If it spins to easy, it kicks out and spins before the motor starts. The drum is supposed to be connected to the big gear too, but they still work if it isn't connected. My local guru welds the drum to the gear if needed. The weight plate/separator and spring are about the only replaceable parts. I can usually make a few good ones out of a bunch of bad ones without buying anything.

Had some time this morning to take the bendix apart.l can see how one can stab yourself with a aharp object trying to take apart,as @iQRTurbo said in his post.
l figured there has to be a different way.l already had some 2x4’s that had a notch cut out in them,so l set the bendix down in between them, being careful not clamp down on anything that would bend (mostly on the large gear at the bottom was where the pressure was).l slid the retractable collar down and got a small C clamp around the shaft and c clip, making sure not to tighten it down “too” much. Now both the bendix and clip were both were not moving.l used a small panel puller and hammer to get under the clip, using the angle of the panel puller to wedge it out.Boom! it worked and no self mutilation of fingers.
From there,it was a matter of disassembly as you can see from the pics.l could not find my snap ring pliers and had to order some new ones, which should be here today.
To be continued..

l got the snap ring pliers in and got the weight spacer plate off.Now just waiting on a new one.l wanted to get a spring too,but on back order.I’ve been told you don’t have to replace it,but since you have the bendix apart, why not.
l have two other bendix‘s,one is good and the other is the one in my ski crapping out.Go figure:rolleyes:7B3F40F8-C6B7-4436-AFAA-5E2942071E36.jpeg
