08+ superjet question on steering

i have a 2014 rn. i have a quick steer on order and was about to purchase a 96-05 cable for more throw. i also want to shorten my pole -4 inches. if i shorten my pole will i even need the old style cable? i dont want to do more work than i have to or spend the money if i dont have to. was curious if anyone has done this! thanks

Just doing the nozzle mod makes a huge difference. The UMI setup is not just a bolt on mod. I was told it needs some drilling or grinding or something so the 2014 I did we decided against the UMI setup. I was told the blowsion quick turn plate was betterbut still wasn't a true I cant confirm any of that because we didn't do the UMI or Blowsion turnplate. I did do a full blowsion pole setup on the 2014 though with the nozzle mod. The problem is the stock steering cable doesn't allow you to take full advantage of the quicksteer plate. The cable bottoms out if you go just about anything beyond the stock turnplate amount. Which means you need to make the steering stop bigger so your not binding the cable. So I just left it at the stock setting at the steering and did the nozzle mod with 4 degree bars and the owner was super stoked.

sweet may hold off till cold weather to install the quick steer and shorten the pole. il try the nozzle mod in the mean time...i have hurd alot about it. everyone says its a must do.

It's definitely a must do... I went with a cold fusion plate.. Slid the cable out as far as i could so the plate stops just before the cable bottoms out.. Could get more throw with a new cable, just haven't bit that bullet and for the most part I'm happy.. New cable is on the list for this winter though

Yes, it would be better to use the older cable, which if used with the existing pole, requires the manufacture of an adapter (not easy) to fasten the upper attaching point of the cable housing somewhat farther down the pole - did that 6 years ago- was about 1.5" - don't remember exactly. Worked well and gave nice steering throw!
