1200 Blaster Build

So guys I am seriously considering dropping a 1200 Yamaha motor in my B1 Blaster.

So based on my research I am going to need

-A complete 1200 motor with electronics.

-Some sort of mount kit ADA, extremthrottle, groupK not sure who's is best or who still makes them

-Rhaas shortened motor mounts

-Raider 1100 waterbox

-Rear thru hull exhaust

-Maybe a different coupling?

-Also would go to a mag pump

So I have read a lot about this recently just looking for some more input from people that have done it.

Have I missed anything?

What would anyone that has done it do differently?

What do you think of yours? Power and handling wise?

How much does it change the weight and balance of the ski?

Where do I find a 65U motor? Does anyone of the motor builder guys build them? If so who would you guys use?

Thanks guys!

I built one it will be fast but imo it was to heavy and sucked down the 6 gallon tank pretty fast. I have a couple blasters with built 701s and i prefer that set up

Interesting. On the weight how do you feel it affected the handling?

How much weight does it add? I read on another thread 40lbs but I don't know that sounds a bit high.

How long would a tank of gas last with the 1200 on average? What carbs were you running?

The spec on a 98 gp1200. Uses 14 gallons per hour. Pretty sure they come with 44s on them. The 1100 Yamaha came with 38s

Man the more I think about it if the fuel consumption is that bad I won't do it. Sounds like 30 to 45 minutes may be all I can get out of it on fuel and if that's the case it won't work for what I would do. It sounded like fun though!!!

It didn't take long to shut this idea down. Hahaha. Thanks for the help guys!

The difference is about 40lbs...really depends what kind of riding you plan to be doing. It makes a lot of power for cheap and stock reliability, and worth doing if your running buoys or lake riding, if your wanting to jump waves it’s too heavy. I had built one and went back to a built 701 because of this.

Go with the Ada kit if your going to build one, you’ll also need a stock waveraider 1100 waterbox, rear 3” exhaust outlet and the correct pitch large hub impeller.

The added weight does make it handle good, and the power is awesome just make sure you know what your building it for so your not disappointed.

I don't think I'm gonna do it. I would just be doing lake riding. But getting from the ramp to where I ride is about 15 minutes. So after considering a 30 min round trip I don't think I'll have enough gas to play for long. So I don't think it will be practical.

You can set up the kawi 1100 with the non cv stock keihin carbs and it isn’t bad on fuel economy. Not a whole lot worse than my race twins with dual 48s. Contrary to popular belief, the stock keihins work surprisingly good, especially if you prop the ski right. The extra weight does take some of the playfulness away compared to a 701, but the extra 5mph and torque is worth it IMO.

I have built two 1200 blasters, If you are still thinking about it there are a few more parts you will need and the best plates I have used are not any of the companies you listed. PM me if you want a full build sheet.

I could be interested in that build sheet and some info on it myself

There’s nothing wrong with the 1200 build, it makes a Great Lake warrior blaster for sure. It’s easy, comes with good carbs, and for those who care, it’s yamaha to yamaha.

The Kawi is lighter, sits lower in the hull, pipes is infinitely easier to work with and mod, revs higher, makes more power and when propped right, leaves harder.

Again, nothing ‘wrong’ with the Yamaha 1200 set up, but there is a reason why every GP blaster on the line runs a kawi. Plus, if you decide down the line that you want to go even faster, the kawi has far better port design and responds to mods way better.
