There is no "correct" number. It's dependent on many things, including tune, cone, prop distance from stator, etc.

As a general rule, stock is around 86, 90 is pretty darn thin, and 88 is middle of the road. All can work fine depending on the rest.

I am running 89mm at the moment. Prop is about 12/16(re-pitched a 16/20 as far as I could). Waiting on 8/16 to arrive, have been told might need to repitch to 7/15

I guess by 'tight' you mean it pulls with the slightest revs, doesn't have a chance to rev up into the powerband.
90mm will be very thin, so will stick on 89mm. Will look at cone size. Need the damn PO strike to be over so I can get my impellers.

Tight is a prop that's too big (or as you say, doesn't rev quickly or with authority). When I was playing with the Dasa 16 mil, we ran a 9-15 or 10-16, for your reference. Your new one will be night and day from what you have now. If you're getting the 8/16, I'd leave it alone until then. If you have a med or large cone now a stubby will help until then.

Thanks.
I am at 4000ft asl so big power loss, we also have relatively low octane fuel, highest at the pump is 95oct PON which is equal to USA 91oct. Looking at trying an additive that the car racing guys using to turn 95oct into 105oct, I can then run 44cc domes instead of the 46cc domes I am currently using
