1977 kawi 440 ignition problem

I picked up a 440 this week and have been working to get it going. The kill switch is faulty and i wondered if anyone has just taken it completely out. its the old style push button kill switch on the right handle and the start button on the left handle

Pull it apart and clean it up. They get corroded inside.

Ok thanks, ill give that a try. Can anyone point me in the direction of the How to check if the stator is good thread haha.
