1991 Superjet

I found a 1991 superjet that I want to buy, I've had Kawasaki's but this will be my first Yamaha. The ski is completely stock and I don't think much maintenance has been done to it besides the basics. Are there any common issues with these I should be aware of?? And is there anything specific I should do to the ski before throwing it in the water??

Thanks in advance!

1. Don't tell anyone else where it is lol. Everyone wants them.
2. I had Kawi standups my whole life. Once I switched to Yamaha, my life has got better.
3. What's the price? If it's a 650, there not too special. If it's 701, you'll love it.
4. These things are nearly bulletproof in stock form. If it runs, then you're probably good. Depending on your expertise, you could look at the carbs etc. but I've never had issues with stock carbs. You might replace a solenoid or starter here and there's, but as long as u mix the oil in your gas, you should be relatively maintenance free.

It's a 650 for $1000. My kawis were 550s so it'll be a step up for me. I'm pretty handy, I do all the maintenance. I just wanted to know if there was anything preventative I should do during these colder months before it gets nice out.

No, I'm on the fence, I really want to pay an extra $2000 for the same riding experience as a 701 square nose
Fixed it for ya.

Round noses are better looking sure, but what you have available is a great deal and can be sold for that much when you find a round nose to replace it with.

For what it's worth, I started with a '90 650 SN. I still own the same ski but its now sporting a 701. The only parts that won't interchange from a RN to a pre '94 SN is the midshaft assembly....

Pretty much plug n play.

Edit: There are a few differences like CDI rev limit and differences between 61x vs 62t stator assemblies. You should know that going into your motor swap. It depends on if you are buying a complete long block motor or piecing one together.

I've had a 550sx, 550, and a modded 440 in the past so this won't be my first stand up, I just don't want to buy one, enjoy it for a couple months, then want something better. That's why I was considering going all the way to a round nose. I've never ridden a stand-up stronger then the 550sx so I don't know how it will compare

Lock up the deal with the seller! You're stealing it. You can ride it for a season as is and sell it for more than you payed or if your nice pass along the savings to the next new guy, your choice. OR you just keep it and you now have the BASE of all the high powered high dollar builds minus a midshaft!

RN's arent cheap anymore! You can build a stronger driveline than a stock rn and bolt it in to your 650 superjets hull for less total money then you'd spend on an RN.
