SXR 2004 SXR Bog Issue

Lately I have been having trouble with my SXR. It wants to bog and die if I try and grab for full throttle from an idle. If I easy into it it runs fine through the rpm range. Its only when I got to accelerate fast. Also the issue only happens for about the first 15 - 20 mins of riding. Once I ride it around for about a half hour its runs ok... But If I shut it off for a period of time on the beach then the issue pops back up to a lesser degree.

I thought it was water in my gas tank, because I have been hauling my ski around with me everywhere I go for the last 2 months in the bed of my truck. However I have run atleast 5 tanks of gas through it since the issue started. I recently went through the carbs in July...

Any Ideas of where to start... I am going to pull the plugs check compression, etc today. I have been too busy riding to deal with the issue.

Is the motor all stock/oem or does it have aftermarket parts? I would go back through the carbs first and give everything a good cleaning. Check the basket in the carb and clean it out. It should be clean in the first place. Do all the standard checks: new plugs, compression, leakdown, cleancarbs. If your running aftermarket carbs weather changes can affect tunning specs. If so go back through the crabs and retune. Sounds like it may be one of the lower carb circuits. Make sure motor is mechanically sound first. Re-tune idle then popoff then low jet. Then tune for high peak rpm. When you change the lower circuits it can affect the high peak rpms. So just start low and work your way up.

It's mostly stock....maybe a new coil??? Works when it heats up???

Drain the gas...open up the carbs and spray them down...If its still a prob, tune in the bottom a little.... I didn't notice ANY bog when I took it for a rip last time out...and I always grab full throttle.

Motor, Electrics... All Stock... Only Mods: No Choke (Primer Installed), Dual Cooling, Exhaust Insert...

I checked the Compression Today: 180 PSI Both Cylinders

Spark Plugs Looked Shiasty as What... Prolly Fouled... So Replaced them and I'm going ripping today to test...

i had same thing happen to me. it was water in my gas tank, because the gas cap sucks go to a internal filler it will cure all!!

you have to take tank out and drain it to get all water out just running gas through will not work

yep...drain the tank x 2...mop it out with paper towels...then clean out the carbs again. Check under your gas cap to make sure the rubber disc is still there...mine tore and caused a huge water leak into the tank.

I dont know, if it were lean it would fall on its face, he says bogging, sounds rich, but it may just be the needle(s) leaking by. I would pull and inspect the needles and if the tips have any indent at all I would replace them and stick new springs in it for good measure
