2004 sxr paint fade question

my buddy just bought a 2004 sxr. it's the white/maroon one. it's strange that the hood is bright white bit everything below the hood(hull) is off white! is this normal or did the gel coat fade? it's been in a basement since 2005 so i dont think it's faded. almost looks like it's supposed to be that color! thanks!

I got similar thing with my 06. Hood white and rest is start to go yellowish

I had the same problem on mine when I had it, just take some marine cleaner (stuff with the gritty stuff in it) and give your ski a good cleaning with that and then a good wax and it helped some.

I think I buffed it and used some of those magic erasers

Old thread but same thing happened to mine. Looks like S**T. I"ve tried magic erasers(helps a little) but wears off, and waxing didn't really help. Anyone else with this prob??

Yeah ours did it. A simple repaint with your choice of colors solves the issue.

Dealing with this exact thing today - both mine are yellow tinted and the hoods are white compared

My rational: The hulls are fiberglass with Gelcoat - THe hoods are SMC with white skin ??

I tried sanding mine and then polishing...not much of a change

My '05 was the same, I tried soft scrub bathroom cleaner and wax, helped a little.

yep I have three sxrs all are like that .. the difference was a little at first but seems more notacible now as the skis are starting to age a bit .. no big deal . best fix I know is WOT and it just looks all white ,. here take a look here is a pic of my son on my sxr .. can you see the differnce in the faded white ??

Where was that picture taken? looks familiar...

it was taken at our cottage on Shadow lake near balsam lake ..
so kawi mods .. your in Ontario ?
we have a 2006 sxr we will be selling soon .. we are just cleaning up the rails .. they were turfed and we are putting stock rails back on ..
the sxr has footholds and handholds in the hood as well we may be puting on an aftermarket pole
probably be asking about $5700

ya im on the St Lawrence river and thats where i thought the picture was taken. As for the ski i would love to buy it but the next thing im looking to buy is a LW hull but if you are serious about selling it PM me some pics and more info and i can pass it to some buddies that are looking for a ski.
