Custom/Hybrid 2010 EME Q8

I recently picked up a 2010 EME Q8. This will be my first aftermarket hull and one of the larger projects I will have taken on. I knew the hull was damaged when I purchased it and got it for a good price. The hull at one point belonged to a member on here who did a full yamaha conversion.https://www.x-h2o.com/threads/eme-q8-build-thread.144434/. I am not familiar with the construction of these hull but it appears the motor mounts are tapped into some kind of plate that is glassed down to the hull. This plate has began to separate from the hull (Circled in red). Im trying to weigh my best options here. Should I tear the whole motor mount system out? would grinding the crack out as much as I can, filling with cabosil/chopped glass and layering strips on top be strong enough?
Thank You.

If it were me, I'd grind the cracks out, dill with cabosil or chopped glass then reinforce the entire mount area with 3-4 layers 8oz sglass tape of different widths starting with say 2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch to get max bonding surface and you'll probably never have another issue. Do both sides with reinforcement so you don't have an issue on the other side down the road.

Not in agreement with you on this one.The process may work, but it feels more like spit and chewing gum repair. The way hulls flex and engines, and drivelines move,it may just last a short time.

l’m a glutton for punishment.Having said that, rip it all of it out and start over.Only way you’ll get a good solid repair

Does it still have the conversion plates? The aluminum brackets were never glassed into the hull, what you are seeing there is stock from EME. The Aluminum plates bolted to that.

yes, I still have the aluminum plates that move the motor mounts to the correct position for the Yamaha motor. I thought about possibly completely tearing out the original EME mounting points and making some sort of mount that directly accepts the Yamaha motor mounts in the correct position, doing away with the need to use the aluminum conversion plates. However, im not quite sure what to build said mounts out of.

Understandable. I was referring to reinforcing the entire mount area on both sides up to the top and feathering out several inches all the way around. That said, I just laid cloth on the entire bottom on my freak when I reinforced the engine bay on it. You have more experience with gluing in the mounts and locating everything than I do which is why I suggested the patch repair. But I agree with you that the best repair is to completely remove and redo it all.

@fastgtfairlane ,@Sanoman , If I were to completely tear out the existing motor mount system how would you guys recommend rebuilding new mounts and fixing them to the bottom of the hull? are there any threads on here where someone has done something similar?

If the plates themselves are in good shape and you can re-use them you should. Cut them out very carefully and pry them from the bottom of the hull. When you get them out, there should be a pocket that they were sitting in. Add some thickened epoxy underneath them and then glass over the plate completely. This might be a good area to use carbon for the strength and so you don't build them up too high. I would put some tape over the holes on the under side of the plate so the epoxy doesn't squeeze through the threads.

Before you try to remove the plates, come up with a way to measure and mark the height for the mount and you will know how high the build up needs to be.

Even though it sucks, doing it the best/right way while it is broken down to this level is the best time to make large repairs
