Super Jet 2012 SJ Ive joined the dark side, picking up tomorrow

Took the plunge and could'nt pass up an offer to snag one of these 2012s, they look sharp. SO, the whole sxr to SJ dilemma is played out again. I'll be selling my 04 sxr shortly, have it in dallas CL already. Just thought i'd say hello to the yami crowd, feel like ive befriended someone haha... Any tips on breaking it in tomorrow? Run 20:1 in the first tank?! Take it easy for 5-10mins, check everything out and let it cool down then ride it like i stole it??? Thanks fellas! I'm siked! I might need to tone down my expectations, feel like going from the sxr isn't gonna be that big of a difference but it was time.

I would take it easy on the throttle for the first tank. kind of roll on and off the throttle and do a little brapping. But i would personally try to stay away from the rev limiter until youve had a tank go through the engine.

rev up and down through the range on the first tank, don't hold constant throttle too long and try to stay off the rev limiter. I would spend at least a tank if not two breaking it in if it was me, 5-10min isn't going to do much. Last time I broke in a new top end it was kinda boring, rev up, rev down, rev up, rev down but I didn't want to take any chances.

normal premix is 50:1 on a stock 701 but I would run more oil than that for the first tank or two.

congrats on the purchase the 2012 is sharp

Might take some gettin' used to, but you'll like it way better pretty soon. The break-in is a debate that will go on forever. That engine (IMO) is the most bulletproof of any watercraft. All stock, ride it like you ride.
BTW: 20:1 seems crazy.

I would definitely invest in an aftermarket steering set up. There was a guy on here selling a cable specifically for the 08+ SJ's (they changed the handle pole that year) which gives u a bunch of throw back. The stock steering throw is awful on the 08+'s.

I'll try and find the guy and send you the his name.

Perfect, thats what i was wondering. Ya the sales guy said he didn't really know and guessed about 20:1 but his mechanic would know. I'm assuming that they'll do the 32:1 but i'll make sure when i get there.
The steering stuff def looks like i'll be needing to do asap. So just his (shmity) kit is enough to take care of it for a while? Funds are def on the low side for the moment haha. I'm sure i can find a wealth of info on how to install, suppose i'll need to do a search.

Yeah, the cable does wonders.

Install is pretty easy. You just take out the old one and throw in the new one. There is a little bit of work on the handle pole end but it should take less than half hour to install it.

Picked it up yesterday and took her out on its maiden voyage. They mixed it 20:1 for the first tank. Took a look at the owners manual and it says 25:1 for the first tank, no more than 3/4 throttle taking it easy (whoops, haha, took it easy for the 'most' part). Says to run 25:1 again in the second tank but mostly normal riding is ok. 50:1 from then on and ride it like you stole it.... Had a huge boat sending out rollers that i just had to pre-hop and brap once, it was awesome. OH and the weight difference between my 04 sxr was definitely noticeable. We took it off the trailer to put into the bed of the truck and then put the SJ on, we were like "wow".

Ya the i told the guy at the dealership to price me out the door. So they should be getting my registration and numbers in shortly. For the meantime i've got a temporary piece that i keep with the ski until i get my numbers. Its funny one of the stickers says "for competition use only, does not meet EPA requirements for recreational use". Haa, suppose thats why this is the last year there making them, sad year.

Just take out the rubber hose by the pump and let it fire out the back instead of being routed to shoot through the tray.

Ski looks great, glad you like it so far.

Thanks, i'm gonna have to throw a coat of wax on her to try and at least attempt to keep water spots off that black! Think its a lost cause though.
As far as the kit from schmity goes, he said i need to get an aftermarket steering system for it to work?! I'm confused, i thought his system worked with the stock stuff to give it more throw?!?!
