2014 Oct JK/Pismo Rager dates CONFLICT w/ HUCKFEST - Now What?

Looks like Huckfest beet us to the weekend. This ride is always the weekend after WF witch is Oct. 4-12. Witch would make the ride the 18-19. Huckfest is slated for the same weekend and they just announced day use and camping prices for the dates of the 17-18 will be raised to $35 day use and $100 camping per day. Not only is it going to be way expensive it will be jam packed with Huckfesters!

Anyone have any input on this?

Change the weekend?

Check it out on FB at Huckfest.

That definitely does NOT work in our favor... I don't want to drive 1300 miles to get mixed up in that crowd of 20,000 people!!! It was bad enough when it happened at the same time as the worcs races, this would be even worse. Look at this: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Huckfest/537079266377275

Curious what these guys think - hopefully they will chime in - @Mark Gomez @2ride @Liquid Militia Clothing @tightithrash @Charlie_Hustle @cammokid43

The date was always right after finals because people were on their way back and/or already on vacation so they would stretch it an extra week. If it gets moved then it breaks up that tradition. However, I'm not sure how many people actually do that anymore?

P.S. - I'm having the title of this thread changed to more clearly point out the conflict. Perhaps people can talk about it next weekend at the Spring Ride.

The only thing that we can do that I thought of is do the freeride the weekend before finals, only problem is it effecting with the people who both race and freeride

Why not the weekend after the Huckfest (OCT 25-26)? Finals actually eats up 2 weekends, depending on Novice/Am/Pro. So that pretty much rules out Oct 4-5 AND 11-12.

I talked to the guys who run huck fest last night I know them personally

They said they chose October cause it's the slowest time of the year on the beach. In the past years they have done it in august and the beach is always at 80% capacity even with out huck fest.

Of course they said just come out and do the freeride the same weekend they doubt it will sell out

Then again the raises in prices is just ridicoulas

I will do a little digging this weekend with the Ranger to see if that weekend is booked for the Huck Fest. We would have to change our weekend to make it more enjoyable. I'll keep everyone posted.

^^^ It's a freaking mess, not worth our time having our event in conjunction w/the Huck Fest. They closed down the beach at 11am last year and there were about 15K people on the beach. We will have to agree on either the weekend before the WF or the weekend after the Huck Fest.

this is great news for all the guys trying to promote our sport... whats better then 15k people and all the big industry sponsors at the same place, same time. i personally think its gonna be dope. kill 2 birds with one stone.

Im not positive but on their facebook page it does say that the promoter has all the beach access and basically gets to run the show. Also NO admission to the beach on wedns and thurs for anyone.Gates will open friday am. Also ALL entrance passes would have to be purchased through them. No way to get them at the gate. 35.00 day use fee,100.00 to camp per night. They say the day fee is per vehicle so pack as many as you can.The 100 also includes the day use fee.

I talked with the parks department today and got some good info. The $35 day use and $100 camping will start at pole 2. Basically Huckfest has the rights to the entire ohv area Friday and Saturday. Annual passes and day use for the regular $5 will be accepted for entrance to the beach from grand ave to pole 2. There will be a fence and controlled gate at pole 2 where the Huckfest event pricing will start. Still there is no camping on the beach available without paying the event pricing. The person at the park was extremely helpfull and even said there is the possibility of making a special camping area for the jet skiers if there is enough interest.

If you plan to be at the freeride this weekend catch up with me for more info as the guys that are more involved with our event will be on hand and we plan to see what kind of deal we can work with the park.

sure would be nice if they let us camp between the first and second entrance where the surf is the cleanest. the pros dont mind the washing machine , but the flounders like me appreciate the less aggressive and farther apart sets. more time to get back on your ski after getting tossed.

All the posts / pix i saw on FB, it wouldn't be smart to host 2 big events on the same weekend.
