2014 SuperJet How-To Adujusting the Carburetor? and what sparkplugs

Should be the same as my 2004. Stock plugs are br7hs or br8hs. Should have a sticker right on the exhaust manifold. Important to get the hs plugs. That's HS.

The ski came with plugs. The auto parts store will cross match the numbers between brands.

Why are you messing with the carbs if it's all stock? Just go ride it. Factory settings are fine on a new stock boat. Tinkering with the screws won't really help you.

@Vumad, thank you for the fast reply. I broke-in the engine properly. It just seems like the idle is running real-LOW. I was just looking for advice on how to properly adjust it, possibly increasing the throttle screw a bit. I came from ridding JS550's, so the new SuperJet is like a Ferrari in comparison. How often and when would you change the spark plugs? What color should I be looking for on the plugs to determine if I'm running too lean or rich?

Idle is adjusted with the idle adjustment screw by the throttle cable on the front of the carb. It doesn't matter how fast you think it should be idling. It either idles or it does not idle. If it keeps stalling, then turn up the idle. I have mine set about 1400 rpm, which will stall after about 4 seconds of no throttle. You can't know your rpm without a tach. It doesn't matter if you know your rpm on a stock boat. However, the hardline tach has an hour meter too and is only $30. You will want a tach for when you upgrade to a pipe and whatnot, so putting it on now and tracking maintenance by date and engine hours is a good idea. I keep a 3-ring binder with all of my receipts, and every time I change something, break something or repair something, I write it down in the book with the date and engine hours. Not necessary, but it's a nice thing to have.

Change your spark plugs when the ski starts running foul. Some people replace them regularly, but that is not necessary. It's only $5, but if it runs good, I'd rather buy more gas.

Plug colors depend on your oil (some have darker dyes). Plug readings only count at high rpm. They are not reliable in the low to mid range. Make sure they are at least a darker tan. It you run yamalube; they will be almost black.

You will need to remove the tamper proof caps and add low and high speed screw adjusters.

New stock superjets like more fuel on the bottom.

2006 and newer SJ's have the tamper proof caps covering the high and low speed needles as Tomski noted. I have a 2008 that is stock and I have had no issues. I change the plugs about every 50 hours of ride time although it is not necessary I have yet to foul a plug. I had the same idle issue when I first got my ski, just crank up the idle speed screw a bit and you will be fine. When the pump is in the water it will load the motor a bit so if the RPM’s seem a bit high out of water you will be fine in the water. I need to pull my crabs a pop the tamper proof caps off as I want to open up the low sped screw to see if I get a better idle and a bit more snap off idle.

Drill them out with a drill bit. They are about 1/4 deep. Brass caps. They pop right out after drilling. Takes about. 5-10 minutes to drill all four once the carbs are on the bench.

Thanks. I looked at it today. Are the screws hidden under the caps? Or do they need to be added after the caps are out?

The screws are under there, but they are hard to access. You wont really be able to see them while the carbs are mounted so they will be hard to adjust. You can buy replacement needles for $15 each that have the tee handles on them for easy tuning. I bought mine from Jetmaniac and they have made my life easier.

You can adjust the stock ones, so don't believe you have to replace them. It will just be more challenging.
