300sx Slob build

SLOB thats Seriously Long Overdue Build, here are some pics of the 300sx frestyle boat I am buildingI cut the crazy side pads off and glassed over them.I am going to turf over them like on a js hull.Also a pic of the bow eye bushing,that pin had to go,looks like I need some welding done now the front nose piece is aluminum :slap:

here are some pics of the flattened handlepole and the shortened pad as well as the nose piece and cover i made for it,that hole above the new piece is my new handhold for barefooting and will be turfed as will the recessed area on the pole

I am doing a 300 build up also. The ski I got had a oil tank leak so I had to defoam it to get rid of the 1/2 gallon of oil that soaked up in the foam.

We are thinking along the same lines. I also cut the rails off and I am going to raise them to match the line from the front of the ski. I and removed the front oil and fuel fillers and smoothed the nose piece and I am removing the raised pole section and shortning the pole 2 inches.

I built handholds and I am installing my old set of 24-7 footholds in the ski along with a scupper.

I plan on using the stock motor (chime in here if anything seems wrong) It has .087 clearance and still has 150 psi of compression I am going to mill the head and get an aftermarket exhaust. I am cleaning up the ports and maybe if I can find someone to do it for free Have it ported. I am boreing the nozzle as far as I can and then order a prop from Dave @ impros and have it repitched down a couple of steps. That should be good enough for a freestyle ski for a 5 year old. So far I have only spent $34.00 on the ski I had to purchase a new pump bacause the old owner Rocked the pump and broke a few chunks out of the veins. I also made 0* bars out of the stock ones.

The ski was donated by Terry aka Yah-ki on the board. Thanks again for the gift to he little guy.

The ski at the 1/2 way point defoamed and cut up all it needs now is fiberglass work and put back together.

I removed the front cavity where the oil tank went and glassed it up also,I needed more room for my exhaust to go into.I love this little hull it has rear exhaust already,an aluminum handlepole with a slick looking cover,and way more room inside than a js 440 - 550 hull,so far everything is going smoothly.

a couple of pics of the engine being mocked up,I am using aluminum on top of the stock mounts to get the correct height these pieces arent quite wide ,long or thick enough but they are close.

I see how you are doing it. I finally made sence out of the pictures...Duhh!!

I was worried that if I tried another motor I would have to reglass the motormounts in there. But I see how it can be done now. Great I will look for 650 superjet. Naaa just kidding a ported 300 with a pipe would be good for a 5 year old.

Do you have a picture of how you removed the oil tank bucket. I cut mine out the other day but havn't glassed anything just yet I am still fitting the scupper and footholds.

I was going to put a 650 or 750 in it butI have too many skis already and thought this would be a good way to make a freestyle boat like I want,by the way where are you putting a scupper in this at,it seems everything is in the way,is it going in up under the rear exhaust?

Another question what year is your ski? Mine is a 87 but it doesn't have that bow eye I think I would keep that and get rid of the bar. I will try to get pictures of my smoothed nose piece. I took a few with the phone but you can't tell it is even there I painted it black and now you can't see any detail because of the reflection.


I am either building my own scupper with some rubber sheeting and a piece of alum. for the rear seal. Or getting a home depot one way ball valve. But 1.5 inch pvc will slide right under the exhaust and straight back. If it isn't defoamed but since mine is I am moving the scupper to the center of the hull under the driveshaft and using elebows to connect it to the exit maybe like a side exhaust but on the left side I seen some pictures on here like that but can't remember where.

Why build a freestyle ski out of a 300 sx... Just so that you can "ask" to ride it when it is done.........LOL You know that deep down it's like riding a moped you want to do it you just don't want anyone to know about it... Like bagging the "Big Fish" at the bar... a fun ride you just don't want your friends to know

OR why have a bow eye. So it will fit on the tray and I don't have to get the tripple trailer out of the yard.

The engine is in and it looks like it will all just fit in there,actually it has way more room than the 550 hull it came out of.I still have to drill and tap the holes for the engine mounts,lines up pretty well minimum shimming will be required.Trying to get everything in its proper place at the moment,but it looks good so far.:woot: :woot:
