I just got a 300sx for my wife. Without doing all the fiberglass modifications can I put a 550 in this hull? And keep the pump as is?
I
believe for the motor you just need to shim it to the 300sx hull's mount points. You'll have to mount the ebox. Not sure if the stock 300sx tank will fit or not. I know many run a kart tank to make fitting it all in easier. As far as the pump goes the 550 pump is different than the 300/400/440 pump. I remember reading in build threads that the 300sx pump can cavitate with the 550 motor. Try searching "300sx conversion site:x-h2o.com" for the documented history of 300sx builds.
My dream build up for the past 2 years has been to stuff a superjet driveline in to mine by grafting in the pump and motor sections. A lot of work but it's possible as shown in the link above. 300sx hulls are super secksi and I'll always be nostalgic about it since a stock 300sx was my first jet ski that I learned to ride on! I wish kawi had their s**t together at the time and put a real engine in it instead of the ridiculous 1 cylinder slug.
I definitely believe learning to ride a 300sx on a choppy early fall lake erie helped me learn the basics though and that skill and total concentration needed to just get on plane made going to a 650 superjet seem like riding a built up flatwater boat!
