4 Stroke Superjet - Reviews?

Now that it’s been a few years, looking for some long term feedback on these things. Does it satisfy that standup itch? Anyone move from an aftermarket ski to the 4 Stroke and didn’t regret it?

What kind of riding do you want to do? I ordered a 21 as soon as they announced they were available. Originally I did so just to have one to develop parts, etc and had all intensions of selling it. I LOVE mine. Infact I sold my 2-stroke. I will say I am old, wore out and slowing down. I just want to cruise around, carve, etc. I have no interest any more in getting large amounts of air, nose stabs, etc. and was just tired of riding a angry 2-stroke that wanted to try to kill me every time I rode it.

If you are young yet, and want to do tricks, jump waves etc. you might want something else smaller and more nimble. If my description above appeals to you, you might like the new SJ. It reminds me of a 1100sxr ,it has been very reliable and trouble free. IMO it is WAY better than the huge Kawi 1500 which feels like a sit down to me.

As I remember it these sucked out of the box, they needed a few mods to the steering and other things to be acceptable , at any rate there are several threads here you probably should read before plopping down a big ole wad of cash on one.

It's like motorcycles, everyone thinks theirs is faster , one time I challenged a guy to a race , I had a Honda VT500 Ascot , he had a Yamaha RD 350LC , I just knew mine was faster right up to the point where he blew right past me.

When I had bolted a heap of stuff on mine i could get it to run with a stock sxr 1500 until it came to the corner. then the sxr destroyed it, buy a 1500 and put front sponsons on it. they are awesome then. The hood creaks in the superjet were terrible, it felt like it was going to fall apart

1500 is just so damn big!
I know, they dont ride as big as they feel. but my back hurts just thinking about unloading on onto shop stand to store in my shop.

I own all the model superjets. Thank goodness I didn’t sell my two-strokes! Nor did I sell my 22’. I did all the normal mods (tune, plate, grate, prop, mats, misc) including RRP pole and OVP. It’s got its place and it works well. I fixed the creak by siliconing the inner to outer hood. I’ve tried at least 10 grates and 4 plates. Nothing will make it carve or ride like an 08-20 SJ.

Fun for rec riding / jumping wake?

I picked mine up new at the end of 2021 with the intent of bucket listing World Finals. I'm at 130ish hrs. They handle awful out of the box, and i knew that before i purchased it. OVP or other quick steer with the correct steering cable and bracket, Intake grate, prop, and tune are bare minimums in my opinion. I have front blowsion destroyers and rear pro watercraft wedges. 20lb of lead under the engine. The ski works really well now for me around buoys.
When i want to jump boat wakes or goof around i pull the lead out and throw on a flush cut ride plate and ride with a quarter tank of gas. It's pretty fun, but it's not two stroke superjet fun.
It's a good low maintenance gas and go ski. Some hulls get stress cracks in the gelcoat. Hood is noisy.

How’s it carve around buoys compared to a squarenose? Hopefully it’s not worse than that at least.

It'll hang in the corners with 08-20, but has a very different feel. I've seen kids win motos against 1500s. It might be more of an exception, but the ski is capable if you have some talent.
