550 help/questions

Hey Guys,

So I am starting a winter project putting together a soon to be sweet 550. I am just wondering what you guys recommend for handling and performance upgrades. I have been looking at a couple parts prowatercraft makes, wondering if there is better options as I am new to the 550 game.

I will also be needing some parts to get it back up and running and reliable. Where is your go-to for new/used parts besides Ebay?

Basically need a complete electronics box, the front fill piece unless I convert it to a internal fill, and I want to do as many handling mods I can do like quick steer, rear rail extensions, maybe tubbies.

How many ounces are you guys taking off the flywheels when you get them lightened?

I got this thing for free with a high compression head and a pipe already, so I got some money to blow on hull mods.

Thanks!

Alot of information here and over on PWCToday. Mostly buy parts from the forums - but you can find some good parts/ parts skis on Craigslist and Ebay if you work hard enough.

You planning on dropping in a larger engine or just using the 550 engine?

I am planning on keeping the same 550 motor as it has because it seems to be pretty fresh, there is a vintage race on my lake and my neighbor has blown everyone out of the water for two years in a row. So I plan to take him down this year lol

Ocean Pro rideplate.
The one with skegs at 60 degrees or so, (it had some 'runners' under it too, as I recall)
it was not legal for closed course racing back in the day but it was great for carving.
If your buddy has tons more 550 experience you won't beat him the first time. : (
